Dizzy Remake Is An iPhone Game

Yesterday’s Dizzy tease has come to fruition – the game is an iPhone and Android remake of the 1991 adventure – note, this isn’t a remake of the first Dizzy game, it was actually the sixth.

“In this iOS/Android eggdaptation,” says the press release, “our hero in a whole shell is back in familiar form, complete with red boxing gloves and his trademark somersaults as he ventures forth in an eggventure packed with collect-and-solve puzzles in a magical cartoon world.”

“It always astounds us what a loyal fan base Dizzy still has,” says Philip Oliver. “Even after all these years people remember Dizzy fondly and it’s great to see him return for his older fans and introduce him to a new generation of gamers.”

Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk will be released on Friday, 9th December.

  1. Hope it is optimised for Xperia Play controls :D

  2. Ugh, more Sonic, Rayman and Mario then… why no console/pc?!

  3. Hugely disappointed. This was crying out for a PSN release, and it would have sold by the bucketload if priced along the same lines as a typical iPhone game. Additionally it would have been a lot more playable – I absolutely loathe on-screen controls, and I really don’t see Dizzy being playable on touchscreens at all.

    • Yeah, i was just wondering how exactly this would translate to a touchscreen interface.

They are surely going to have to implement touchscreen ‘buttons’ for movement & jumping i would have thought?

      • Looking at the screenshots on http://eggcitingnews.com, it has six touchscreen “buttons” – Diagonal-left, Left and Up on the left of the screen, and Diagonal-right, Right and what looks like an action button on the right. Their layout looks clunky, frankly.

      • Sounds absolutely horrible and Philbert is right, some jumps were down to landing on a pixel so I don’t see this working too well. Good thing I still have my original cassette tapes! :D

  4. has anybody ever finished one of the original Dizzy games?
i don’t think i ever made it more than a few screens, so finishing it was never gonna happen.

    • From what i recall, it was like that for most games on the speccy, commodore etc.

I was of course a lot younger then (& therefore probably had less of an attention span), but i don’t recall ever actually finishing a game, or even getting past the first few levels until i got my master system!!

    • Believe it or not I finished all of the proper platformer-based ones! Too much time on my hands back then…

      • Some of them did go on forever… i remeber almost finishing Magicland… was missing one coin/star which annoyed me… hours playing those damm dizzy games and bubble bobble :)
