The world’s largest videogame retailer, Gamestop, has pulled the trigger on its Vita memory card prices. The proprietary format cards are available in sizes ranging from 4GB up to 32GB and are based on the SD memory card format which is almost ubiquitous these days.
Prices are as follows:
- 4GB – $29.99
- 8GB – $44.99
- 16GB – $69.99
- 32GB – $119.99
This is significantly more expensive than equivalent SD memory card prices but roughly similar to high performance types of that memory. These prices are also roughly equivalent to the Japanese prices so we would hope that they’re converted into Euro and Sterling accordingly ahead of the February 22nd release date.
Launch window games are being shipped on 2GB and 4GB cartridges but it is thought that, in the future, games might come on cards up to 16GB in size – obviously equivalent sized storage options are required for digital versions of the games, as well as other multimedia content and game saves.

Ohh, the retailers will praise the Vita!

Ouch. But then I guess that is the cost of having the machine come in at under £250. Not sure whether I’ll shell out for the biggest one at launch. Will see how much cash I have available after getting the actual machine and some games!

This doesnt bother me too much. 8GB should be plenty enough for me. can feel the pain for the folks that will need the 32GB though. Thats a lot of wedge.

This is mad!
Why couldn’t they just have made the Vita support SD cards or Memory Stick Pro Duo.
Their both cheaper alternatives and Memory Stick Pro Duo is Sony technology.
40 dollars for a Sony 16gb Memory Stick Pro Duo and I’m sure you can find much cheaper options. Still fairly expensive if a game will come in a 16gb card. But it’s still cheaper.

I can’t belive Sony doesn’t ship the Vita with at least 8GB internal storage, the HDD is one of the PS3’s big successful features and they do smartphones that need memory, so you’d think they know how much that would add to the console.
I still want one at launch, but this means I’ll probably not be getting any big memory card for it until third-party options come out.

Yikes, hopefully they’ll have better read/write speeds than SD or something, make it reasonable that they’re doing specialist ones. Otherwise… PAH!

I’m sure it will be cheaper online. Gamestop are probably similar in pricing to Game.
