TSA’s Top 100 Most Anticipated Games Of 2012 – The Launch

At the end of last year, we ran a huge series of features listing our top 100 most anticipated titles for this year. There was one article for every position on the list and it almost killed poor Lee, who compiled and wrote it all.

[drop2]This year, we’re going to format the feature slightly differently. We’re going to break the list down into manageable chunks of five and summarise them. Hopefully, this means that it’s not only less laborious for us to compile but more accessible for you to read and offer more of a chance for you to discuss the titles listed.

When we get to the final top ten, we’ll break them down again and post them individually so that we have the chance to write a little bit more about them and also so that the most highly anticipated games (by you, hopefully, as well as by us) are given a little time in the spotlight for us all to discuss them.

Once the full series has been published, we’ll post the list in its entirety and perhaps take a little look at one or two odd titles that didn’t make the final chart. We’ll also give you the chance to vote on that top 100 list and compile those results into a kind of big Massive Poll to see if you arrive at a similar top ten to ours.

Here’s how we compiled the chart: The list of all games that have been confirmed or heavily speculated for 2012 was sent to everyone on staff here at TheSixthAxis and we asked them to rate how much they were anticipating them on a scale of one to ten. Those ratings were counted up and used to find the final chart positions of each game. In last position, falling well outside of the top 100, was a game called Victorious: Hollywood Arts Debut, which only managed to interest a single member of staff more than the bare minimum.

There is likely to be the odd game announcement between now and the end of this list which we will, of course, have missed (especially when the VGAs air with all of their exclusive trailers) but that is, unfortunately, unavoidable. There might also be the odd title that you think should be on the list but was not included. I’ll stress that we only included games that were either announced or inevitable and highly likely to arrive in 2012.

We’re kicking off the list tomorrow, counting down from 100 to 96, and there are a couple of really interesting projects already cropping up so we hope you join us and join in with the feature by talking about the games we’ll be showing off.

  1. Unlike last year where I could barely think of 15 games due for a 2011 release, this year there seems to be loads lined up.

Tomb Raider, Bioshock:Infinite, Max Payne 3, Darkness 2, Catherine (UK), Jak and Daxter HD, Mass Effect 3, Halo 4 (?), FFXIII-2, FFX HD, Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil Operation Racoon City, Aliens C.Marines, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon, etc, etc, etc :D

Should be a good year (hopefully a lot better than this year, where I’ve felt mostly underwhelmed and let down)

  2. There is also a truck load of vita games that are going to drop next year. Hope they manage to get into your top 40 at least.

  3. I’m looking forward to Mass Effect 3 next year and it comes out a few weeks before my birthday so hopefully i can get it for my birthday then. :D

That’s about it for next year as i’m not really too bothered by the games that are coming out next year. As long as i have Skyrim and ME3 then i’m happy. :)

  4. There have been so many games released in the last 2/3 months I just haven’t had a chance to play. Think I’ll be working my way through those for the forseeable future.

Then onto Lara Croft and Max Payne, off the top of my head.
