Could Lego LotR Be On The Way?

This is pure speculation on my part and there is absolutely no proof that Travellers Tales are working on a Lego Lord of the Rings game but let’s look at the evidence:

Travellers Tales has created Lego video games based on the Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars and Batman Lego sets.

Lego Batman 2 has been kind of announced via listings in a toy retailer’s catalogue and after that, the movie-inspired Lego franchise bucket is practically empty with only Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull left to be produced.

The Lego games always sell well and there have been no less than forty seven (forty seven!) Lego video games since 2006.

On Friday, Warner Brothers and Lego announced a deal in which the brickmakers will create play sets based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the two upcoming Hobit movies, ‘An Unexpected Journey’ and ‘There And Back Again’.

Therefore I conclude, with absoloultely no proof whatsover, Lego Lord of the Rings: The Video Game is on the way. Probably.

  1. Lego men don’t have fingers to put a ring onto – “One bracelet to rule them all!”

  2. *Hobbit*

  3. Thought Lego Indiana Jones 2 had the 4th “film” on it… Not that I’m going to be buying it just to confirm. Who am I kidding, I love all the Lego games! I’m not even that big a LOTR fan but would be thrilled if they got the plastic block treatment.

    • Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues does cover all 4 films.
Now I’d like my Lego anorak please. :-)

    • It did indeed – In fact most of the games ‘Hub’ was based upon Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

  4. I’ve been hoping for a LoTR Lego game for a couple of years now, huge fan of both. No matter how old you are, you can always enjoy Lego.

  5. This news would not surprise me if it did turn out to be true. In fact, i am more surprised by the fact that they haven’t done one yet!

  6. There are rumours that there may be a Lego Halo in the future. I don’t know if a Lego LOTR could work as they lack fingers and it would probably be using the same forumula. :S

    • Halo are signed to another block to company arent they? *Googles* Yup – Mega Bloks – so would never come to Lego – http://bit.ly/tC5Nr3

  7. So that’s me watching the amusing bits on YouTube again in the near future.

  8. I for one would buy a Lego Lord of the Rings game, I’ve always loved both franchises.

  9. if lego have the LOTR license now, i’d say it’s only a matter of time till we see a loge LOTR game.

i’d play it, if only to see a lego balrog. ^_^

  10. Forty seven games since ’06!? That’s just mental. I think you’re probably right that a LOTR game is on the way, if not, definitely a hobbit one. Or what about spiderman actually? X-men might be good too, plenty of characters, abilities would be tricky though.

    • I know, I’m pretty astonished by this too, I’m the first person to put my hand up and say I own and love a bunch of them (and should probably be old enough to know better!). I’m guessing these 47 won’t all be cross-franchise games, and include stuff like LEGO Universe and LEGO Battles.

      • Indeed & lets not forget thuings like Lego Rockband & stuff too.

I was pretty shocked at 47 tbh, but if you think about it, there is probably a lot of stuff aimed at the younger market (say on the DS or something) that we may just not hear too much about.
