One of the main selling points of the original ModNation Racers was fast and furious online ‘head to head’ racing.
With this in mind it’s quite a surprise to learn that the Vita game, Road Trip, won’t have this feature. In its place will be ad-hoc multiplayer, as well as the ability to save your best times and compare them against others.
This is a bit of a shame really. Here’s hoping for a really outstanding single-player experience – we’ll have our review of the game up very soon…
Update: There has been a bit of confusion surrounding this, so here’s a screengrab of the message that displays when you start an Ad-Hoc Race, the only multiplayer option.

Imo, kart games live or die depending on whether they have online play these days. As much as I love Mario Kart 7 I doubt I would have played it much were it not for the excellent online features

I am still very dissapointed with no Online Racing. I was going to get that purely for TSA Meets just like we used to on the PS3 it was the most fun meets and the creation from TSA and such were fantastic. I thought about it when I heard on twitter from teflon and others….. no sale for me!

This confuses me a great deal. To my knowledge the multiplayer was always billed as cross-play with PS3. Could this simply be a misunderstanding in so far as it doesn’t have a MP mode which is unique to the Vita game?…
teflon
It’s never been “cross-play”, as the Vita game alters power-ups, modifies handling and plenty other stuff.
What is still coming is that all content created on PS3 will be playable and usable on PSV.

That was the one of the original game’s big selling points, and even the PSP version had online play. It was a game I was really interested in for the console too :c

Not a huge loss for me, I’m always playing games whenever I have freetime in either work or College breaks.. and the Wi-fi I just don’t bother, glad it wouldn’t depend on a online mode.
All I want to is design, race the cpu and download? didn’t really play online on the PS3 version, was crap.

no online play in a racing game?
in 2012?
when even nintendo have mario kart online?
oh… kay. o_O

I don’t care that much about the online portion of MNR:RT as i didn’t care about it when i played the PS3 version (waiting to get my ass kicked was kind of annoying)
however this trend is starting to concern me.
can any Vita game handle actual universal online?
will Little Big Planet have online
what about the next Uncharted Vita title (will they be another one!?!)
i wish Sony were clear with what these Vita games were capable of.
Sympozium
If Capcom and Nintendo (likely more but I forget) can do it then I don’t see why it could be problem

Wasn’t the whole idea behind ModNationRacers the same idea that LittleBigPlanet implemented into their games?
“Play…Create…Share.” right?
