Heatwave Interactive has recently confirmed that mythology-inspired MMO, Rome Rising, has gone free-to-play. After a troubled development cycle, the game finally launched last June and despite offering a succinct MMO experience, it simply didn’t rank against the genre’s powerhouses (both F2P and premium,) the monthly subscription fee of $10 warding away a mass audience.
Unlike a number of titles which have switched to the F2P business model, Gods & Heroes has not undergone a name change. Those who fancy giving the game a spin can do so at a one-time cost of £7.99 through digital retails.

Just being picky but £7.99 isn’t free.

Fair point, but F2P usually applies to the subscription. No doubt the game itself will eventually become free too.
