‘Girl Fight’ Coming To PSN And XBLA

Girl Fight is a new beat ’em up heading towards the PSN and XBLA this spring from Microprose, Kung Fu Factory and Majesco Entertainment.

The rather startling re-emergence of 90’s software house Microprose is – sadly – the least shocking part of the news. Let’s take a look at the press release.

  • Get Ready to Lick the Competition with Girl Fight”  – There are only female fighters in the game  so ‘lick’ implies that they are lesbians! Look, they even used a capital ‘L’ on Lick to emphasise the lesbionics.
  • “With hair flying, long legs kicking and the ear-piercing shrill of deadly vixens.” – As they are girls they scream a lot, tug  hair and have super sexy legs.  This is more important than which martial arts they have studied.
  • “Girl Fight is a unique all-female, fast-paced spin on arcade-style fighting games.” – No it’s not, Skullgirls is out around the same time.
  • “Girl Fight allows players to choose from an array of sexy fighters.” – When was the last time you heard Capcom describe Ken and Ryu as ‘sexy’? Do Netherrealm refer to Goro as ‘Mr Totty’? No.
  • “With unlimited funding and no moral or ethical compass, THE FOUNDATION collects its test subjects from all around the world, often abducting and plugging women into their virtual construct known as The Mainframe” – With limited funding and no moral compass Kung Fu Factory have made a game about kidnapping women, objectifying them and then making them fight for your entertainment.

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of T&A in a game, Bayonetta is a great example of a ‘sexy’ character. However, the press release for Girl Fight makes the game sound horrendously sleazy.

  1. I’m guessing this and Lollipop Chainsaw aren’t high on your list as this years essential purchases? It is pretty shitty isn’t it.

    • Pretty Shitty, now that is a porn flick title!

    • Actually I have Lollipop on preorder. A couple of upskirt shots are to be expected from a Japanese game and they are more ‘teenage titilation’ than ‘exploitation’.

      • Oh, i thought Lollipop was a PSN/SEN title – Had no idea it was going to be a boxed product (to be fair though, i haven’t exactly researched it, so it stands to reason that i wouldn’t know).

      • Good point. Or should I say “points”

  2. I’m a girl, and I box. Reckon that any of the girls in this game will look anything like me or anyone else in the real world? Or that the designers would want to go in the ring with me? I think not…

    • Going by your TSA name…no and no

      • Ha ha, that is only my nickname because I’m 5″10 and tend to wear very high heels! Oh, and all my friend are hobbit sized…

  3. Reminds me of the advertised features of x-blades. Flag could not be more red

  4. The thing is if they had approached the PR differently it could come across as a completelty different game. I’m thinking along the lines of the ladies from Galdiator – yes they were sexy, yes the didnt wear much but they were strong warrior characters and youg girls would apsire to be like them.

This lot seem to be a load of abducted bimbos fighting purely for the pleasure of the viewers (ie men).

    • Or just make a Gladiators game. That would be awesome, maybe.

  5. If we’re going to have tits and arse and fighting, let’s do it properly..

    • That game ruled, headbutts and spinning neck chops ftw, my mum went nuts when she first saw it – hahahaha

  6. I gotta ask, how do you find these things, tuffcub? xD

  7. This wouldn’t happen if women were more inclined to come out of the kitchen and get coding more software.
Actually joking aside this is what i’d aim at if i were a female coder and/or pr person. If the game was actually good you’d have a half decent chance at getting a full game published.

  8. So it’s porn then? I wonder if they will use the DOA breast physics?

  9. As crass and poor as this title sounds, the whole genre has been objecifiying women for a looooooong time. Though there are exceptions to the rule, SF, SC and DOA arelittle better, to name but 3 series and it’s been bugging me for years.
