WeView Verdict: Assassin’s Creed Revelations

Here’s a game that, although being a big fan of the franchise, has sat on my shelf waiting for me to return to it and pick up play where I left off – arriving at Constantinople. I don’t know what tore me away from Assassin’s Creed Revelations so early in the game, or why I haven’t made the effort to return to it yet. Perhaps some of you will have some insight as to why Revelations didn’t grab me and consume all my free time like the previous entries have.

In our review, Blair heaped on praise. Just reading back over sections of his review makes me feel like an idiot for not dedicating more time to this.

It’s a compelling experience that takes what you’d expect from Assassin’s Creed, refines it and then adds some stellar new features. And when it all ends, you’ll experience the closure of old plot threads and the paving of new ones.

[drop2]That sentiment was echoed by NazzyQ, who said he loved the game’s setting and scenery before admitting that “Revelations recycles a lot of gameplay mechanics” although he finishes by confirming that “it successfully immersed me in the time period and setting. And at the end of the day, that’s what AC is about for me!”

Unfortunately, the rest of you seemed to have been a bit deflated by the game. The overall feeling is negative, although most forgot to give us their recommendation.

RocketSOL was first to leave a comment, saying that he “thought Revelations was a bit poor” and that he “just wanted to finish it to say I had seen the end as I felt it dragged a little bit”. Doomsday619 agreed although he did say that he “can’t wait to see what happens in the next game” so Ubisoft must be doing something right, overall.

Micky17 said that he was generally bored and disappointed by the single player game but he “always liked the multiplayer portion since it was introduced and really enjoyed it in ACR”

Despite the general feeling of negativity in the comments, there were three recommendations to rent the game and three recommendations to buy it, with only one person explicitly saying it should be avoided. So we have a hung jury, split between a rating of Buy It and a recommendation to Rent It.

Kris is away for a few days so I’m taking on WeView responsibilities. Let me know if there’s anything we haven’t done that you’d like to see for tomorrow.

  1. Rent it eh…..not surprised..

  2. Tried this and got about an hour in. Obviously not enough to write a weview but enough to let you know I didn’t think it worthy of any more of my time. ;)

  3. In a similar way to abandoning TV shows (lost/heroes) when they become boring, I don’t see the point in wasting my time just to “find out how it ends”. So part way through AC2 saw the end of my involvement with the series for now. We’ll see if the new one rekindles my love of the first game or not – it had better learn a lot of lessons from its contemporaries.
