It’s real, then – the new God of War game is called Ascension, and it’s for PS3. We’ll hopefully get full details today but for now the teaser is above, so enjoy.
“Many know the story of Kratos,” says the trailer, “the mortal turned god who brought down the very walls of Olympus, but there was a time before Kratos became the monster known as the Ghost of Sparta.”
“A time where something other than rage consumed him. A time when, in spite of the madness that plagued him, Kratos would break his blood oath to an unjust god. A time when he would no longer be bound in blood.”
That all clearly sets up the game as pre-Ghost of Sparta, so it’s the first game in the series by my reckoning.

I too, like the idea of a pre-God Kratos. Will be interesting to see what they do with it.

Was hoping they’d step away from Kratos & start a new trilogy, but GoW is easily PlayStation’s best franchise so I’m super excited anyway.

I hope this means that Kratos won’t be extremly p*ssed off this time around seeing as it’s a prequel. Won’t mind if he becomes very p*ssed when that event happens.
They need to spice up the gameplay a bit as Hack and Slashes are not designed to last for x amount of games without any part of it getting changed.
Actually, at a closer look, i think he will be display other emotions as the music is not the traditional KRATOS, IS FECKING ANGRY! KRATOS etc.. Suspect the highlight will be the massive battle that resulted in him become the God Of War’s slave/servant. Had better be the last fecking Kratos game though as they can’t get away with anymore Kratos.

So this is a prequel yes, before everything else that happened? Before he became God Of War? Yes? So..er.. name..? It’s not like he’s even ascending to become the God of War as he does that in GOW1.
Still.. no skipping ropes then! Yay!

Oh he still uses skipping ropes, just that this time, they are actually skipping ropes. The minigames will be play with Kratos’s daughter, make tea, bang the misses, pick apple and then have revenge on the bees for stinging his kid.

Because they did a deal, Kratos is the main villain of the sequel to Heavy Rain. Heavy Blood. Someone has been going around town, murdering people. He tends to leave prop swords around and calls himself Kratos. You are a detective and you have to stop him. Press X to scream when he stabs you in the balls.

The main char of Lollipop Chainsaw will probably make a guest appearence. Give Kratos skipping ropes with spikes I guess.

*spoiler* At the end of the game Kratos assends from the underworld, changes his name to Keith and gets a job in a traffic management call center.
