Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition Shifts Over A Million Sales

Minecraft’s massive, and the Xbox 360 version apparently just as huge as the desktop versions.

Microsoft mouthpiece Major Nelson has updated his blog (he does this a bit, seemingly) that originally claimed that the game had “broken all previous Xbox LIVE Arcade digital sales records” with one with a staggering number.

One million.

As of today, after two days less than a week on sale, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold more than one million units globally. Anyone doubtful that digital downloads can sell big numbers need to just reflect on that for a minute.

Nelson also fires over some statistics – total online hours is 5.2 million, there’s been 4 million multiplayer sessions and 2.4 million multiplayer gaming hours.

He doesn’t state how many downloads the game has had, mind – the number of people who tried the demo could be bigger still.

  1. Wish i had an Xbox. I have it on my Mac, but it runs horribly.

    • It’s not intended to work on overcoats.

  2. Don’t really think it deserves the sales it got. From what I have played at my mate this game is just a slimmed down version of the PC game and feels old compared to the PC version already. Should have been called Minecraft:Light Version.

  3. its only the beta 1.6 version it will feel really slimmed down. But then again i am thinking that alot of the people who bought it have no idea what it is like now on the PC.

  4. I’m not bothered about this game but why isn’t it on PS3?

    • Think MS have an exklusive deal.

      • yes exclusive on pc/mac/ios/andriod/360 but they will port it at some point.

    • Xbox 360 has the console exclusive… in the past they’ve done it for 12 months, so we’ll see.

  5. I think its got something to do with the way they approve Xbox live content. Something about if its on PSN first then it wont be approved for Xbox, so alot of games end up being on Xbox and then PSN a couple of months later.

  6. All these people that have now been hooked by the 360 version, really need to get the PC one for the ‘full experience’. It’s so much better on PC; mods, texture packs etc. Would still love to see it on PSN though.

  7. Excellent sales, going 360-exclusive paid off. I guess we’ll have to wait a few months at least before we hear any possibility of a ps3 version.

  8. Also the creator of FortressCraft told Notch to eff off and blamed him for Fortresscraft’s sales decreasing.

Wasn’t expecting it to do a million sales over this quickly. Was expecting it to take a week. Now i wonder if we will see it MC get ported over to the PS3 once the deal with MS runs out? I’m assuming it’s a timed exclusive.
