Sony has announced a short term incentive for anyone looking to buy a PS Vita in Europe.
The deal, effective as from this Friday, June 1st, will see SCEE offering a €50 (£40) rebate on Vita purchases during a six week period that will end on July 15th.
The deal will not be repeated, and is not intended to appear as a price cut. No ‘ambassador’ program or refund is expected for anyone who has bought the Vita before this Friday.

Update: It has been confirmed to MCV that this deal is only available in France and won’t be coming to the UK or, we assume, other markets. It’s also being stressed that it’s a temporary thing so don’t get your hopes up.

Sony being clever of late it seems. This could be great for them if they come out with some BIG news/exclusive stuff in the next week. Then once the hype dies down, they will still be rubbing their hands together.

I will keep my eye out on retailers to see if they further reduce this temporary price drop (Sony can call it what they want but we all know it’s a price drop to see if it will have any effect on sales). E3 will be Sony’s biggest chance to save Vita.

to anybody thinking about a vita, if you want to buy one, buy one, just don’t count on scee ever making good on this, if they do, consider it a bonus.
i bet if they do fulfill their promise, the vita will have had a proper price cut of more than this anyway.

The 3G Vita is a brilliant £210 at Amazon. In addition, the Wi-fi version is an amazing £198.

I really hope this boosts sales. They need to really showcase the Vita at E3 though to further increase sales

MCV have just updated the news with this
MCV is still awaiting confirmation of the UK price, though has been told that it’s possible the promotion is exclusive to the French market. We will confirm as soon as we can.

People pay a premium for new tech, it’s not just Sony.
A first party title for ambassadors or some sort of bone would be nice though, but not expected.
