The UK Government have set out plans to monitor Internet traffic and keep a record of what we’ve all been up to for twelve months.
A draft version of the Communications Bill will be published shortly and is expected to show that the Government wish to record the use of social network sites, webmail, voice calls over the Internet and… gaming.
Bernard Hogan-Howem, the Metropolitan Police commissioner said ‘Put simply, the police need access to this information to keep up with the criminals who bring so much harm to victims and our society.’
Officers would not need a warrant to access the originator, recipient and location of the communication but would need to apply to the courts to access the contents of a message.

Just bring on shit like in Minority Report already. I know it’s only a matter of time before I’ll get that speeding ticket before I even decide to break the limit
I’m not from the UK so this is not affecting me (yet), but you guys better do something about it because if the UK is allowed to do it, these monkeys in mainland Europe will follow suite. I’m literally scared of the digital future and it is something that coming generations will not able to break free from. I’m having a rage attack if my internet goes down for 5 seconds; I can quit and I’m sure many others can’t too. That’s why at the moment you, but we in general have to stop shit like this before they go into law, because once they do, they are very hard to erase.
This also effectively monitors our entire online lives forever. That 12 month clause is nice, but what you do tomorrow will also be kept for a year, and what you’ll do in a year will be too and ad infinitum. Basically you’ll be monitored NON STOP and that thought “eh the data kept on me is deleted after a year so who cares” will do no good. I hate it when they play the terrorist, paedophile or losing jobs cards to pass laws that are clearly fucking against us the citizens.
The future scares me.
