Amazon Price The Wii U At…

Amazon Germany have listed the Wii U and priced it somewhat higher than expected at €399.99.

That roughly converts to a rather unpleasant £320 or, for our American chums, $500.  That seems awfully expensive to me, especially for Nintendo.

Amazon are listing a release date of 21st December which also seems rather suspicious as it would mean the console would miss out on the majority of the Christmas shopping period.

ShopTo are still listing the console for £279.99.

  1. I think nintendo could really capitalize with the wii u but a price this high would certainly count me out.Really need some official info though.

  2. The 400€ price tag has been confirmed by Amazon FR.

    • Not really ‘confirmed’, as that’s likely nothing more than a placeholder too, but it does add a little weight to it i suppose.

  3. Amazon UK did have it up for preorder last week for £199.99 but unfortunately cancelled all orders

  4. I know they’ve been trying to get the balance right between performance/features and cost but that price seems wrong if they’re to compete with PS3/360 or if they’re looking to attract casual gamers. Mind you, with recent reports that Wii U is slightly more powerful than PS3/360, combined with the added cost of the tablet, i wouldn’t be surprised if the actual price isn’t far off ..
    I forked out €630 for a launch PS3, so who knows.. :/

  5. Blimey if it was that much I wouldn’t be arsed with it.

Hoping for £200….. but then again I think launch will be a mistake again like the 3DS so this time I is cautious.

  6. In norwegian money that aint bad at all. But it’s probably going to be noticeably more expensive here…. I payed over £400 for my ps3, and will gladly do so again for the ps4, but the Wii U will be competing with the current gen aswell, and must be priced accordingly. That’s just a placeholder pricetag though.

  7. £320? Flipping hell. Call the police. How dare they charge over £300 for a new console. What do you want them to do? Give it you for free and offer you 50% off on top of that? I understand people aren’t happy with it not being this big powerhouse they were all hoping for (even though we don’t know its actual power yet), but its by Nintendo. A quality company. You get all this tech, the great games, the fabulous long lasting build quality, and its a bad thing that its more expensive than their past consoles?

I would pay that much, just because Nintendo is where problens will be minimal, and the technology in the Wii U has some potential.

    • Well said. You’re certainly right about the actual quality. Touch wood I have never had a single Nintendo product die on me and that includes my original SNES which is still going strong. Conversely I have been through 7 xbox360s, 2 PS3s and 5 PS2s.

  8. ouch that is harsh the wii u needs to have better specs than the ps3 and xbox and not all cartoon style games it would good to see it in hd
