Amazon Germany have listed the Wii U and priced it somewhat higher than expected at €399.99.
That roughly converts to a rather unpleasant £320 or, for our American chums, $500.  That seems awfully expensive to me, especially for Nintendo.
Amazon are listing a release date of 21st December which also seems rather suspicious as it would mean the console would miss out on the majority of the Christmas shopping period.
ShopTo are still listing the console for £279.99.

No ‘may’ about it, lol. If I can’t walk into my local Blockbuster on day of release and come out with a Wii-U + game for under £275 I won’t bother – and even then thats because I have over £175 in store credit at the moment lol.

you wont need a Wii U once the baby comes…4 months in for me and I’ve touched my ps3 about 4 times.

Tbh the only reasons I’m considering the Wii-U are:
a) I no longer own any consoles aside from a 360, which is practically held together with sticky tape
b) my Mrs really liked the look of some of the Wii-U games at E3 so it will act as more of a family console.
c) ….plus ZombiU looks awesome ;)

Agree with you all. As a father of 4 it’s been 2 years since I had any serious gaming time. Now with the youngest about to start school in September I am on the verge of getting a vita for my train journeys. Oh the joy of not paying out for child are vouchers every month!. I wouldn’t change it though, enjoy them when they are young.

I’ve got a baby on the way in September. I’ve already written off Wii U for a least a year or two. Not even sure about Cod etc this year, mainly for the lack of time I hear Im going to have….

Depends on how obsessed your other half is with babies I guess. Knowing my Wife I won’t be doing much of the baby stuff initally as she won’t want to share, lol.

I think they are just setting a high price to get preorders in and then they can lower the price when it’s all official.

Judging by the current state of the Euro they’re probably predicting the Euro only being worth half the value it is now in 6 months time, therefore thats probably correct. ;)

If it’s £200 i’ll buy but anymore it’ll have to wait. Tech slightly better than 7 year old current gen what won’t even play DVD’s/Blu-Rays and no Hard drive is not something i’m willing to pay said amount for.
And the fact no decent games out for it at launch (apart from multi-plat games what i’ll end up getting on ps3 anyway)

F**KING HELL!? I expect this from MS and Sony but not from Ninty as they tend to sell their consoles for less then what the other consoles cost. :O Plus, they will have a very hard time trying to sell it to both causals and hardcore gamers. The causals won’t bother with the Wii U as they already have the Wii and the hardcore, probably no longer trust ninty due to the Wii.
