2012 Tokyo Game Show: No Sign Of Nintendo

Microsoft pulling out of the Tokyo Game Show was hardly a shock, but the recently published list of exhibitors seems to be missing one key ingredient: Nintendo.

Sony are listed, alongside Sega, Capcom, Namco Bandai and Tecmo Koei, but the seller of Japan’s most popular hardware is notably absent.

Nintendo and Microsoft have also pulled out of gamescom in Cologne, and Nintendo chose their own event to reveal the 3DS XL – is the the beginning of the end of the huge trade shows?

  1. Why compete for headlines when Nintendo can do another Nintendo Direct whenever they want and guarantee maximum exposure for there products?

  2. Blimey, what next? no annual military shooter? Maybe a spread release schedule with quality releases throughout the year? Nah…

  3. I would have thought with the release of the Wii U at the end of the year Ninty would be at every event possible.

    • That would probably make more sense.

  4. Nothing amazing has ever been revealed at TGS since I’ve first started reading internet news. #Cursed.

  5. Not 100% sure here, but I know one thing. Nintendo was not at the TGS in 2003, which is when I was lucky enough to attend. When I asked around then, I was told that Nintendo never participates there. I was kind of surprised to see this ‘news’ make a headline here.

    • I doubt Nintendo has to participate in TGS – Nintendo has been around forever.

Nintendo to Japan is like the BBC to the UK, maybe a better example is like GE or Ford is to the US
