Sony: “No Plan” For Resistance, As Franchise Dwindles Down

I absolutely loved Resistance: Fall of Man. It was a groundbreaking achievement when it was released alongside the PlayStation 3 and – for me at least – showed what the console could do in terms of first person shooters. That Manchester level was insane.

The second game didn’t fare so well, but it was still enjoyable, and boasted a great co-op mode. Resistance 3 boosted the graphics and the team created a solid shooter, but by then the franchise had started to dwindle in terms of popularity.

With Insomniac out of the way and working on Facebook games (amongst others) it was down to Sony’s other studios to pick up the slack. The recent Vita game was a mess, and that one – sadly – looks like being the last in the series, at least for now.

“The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on,” said Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Online producer Daniel Brooke, “but as for the future we have no definitive plans.”

It’s not encouraging news, but it doesn’t sound like it’s definitely over for ever, more that for the moment the company is concentrating on other things. That said, if there’s another Resistance it’s going to have to be amazing to regain the fallen interest levels.

We’ll see.

  1. Shame I am part of the minority that loved every game in the series but it is most probably best to put the series to bed poor sales and and poor reviews it was just a matter of time!.

  2. They left so many un answered questions too, who was that other alien race the chimera were supposedly at war with, and many more that i cant even remember now…

  3. By far the best game was Resistance Retribution on PSP.
Sony Bend really are the hidden gem of Sony’s studios- Syphon Filter series, best Resistance, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss (best Uncharted gameplay, if not the best for the story, graphics and set pieces).

Strange that Sony never had them make a single PS3 game, they’ve owned them since 2000…

  4. Loved them all except Burning Skies.

  5. R4 will be a PS4 title that will blow us away.

  6. Apart from its fricking woeful ending, Res 3 was one of my favourite games this generation, and FoM IS my fave this gen, so naturally I’m gutted. I can’t really see where they could go, but there are so many unanswered questions!!!

For the record, I think number 2 was awesome first time around, but it definitely the worst of the PS3 series.
