“Next Generation” PlayStation Has Been In Development For Two Years

Ah, LinkedIn again. And once again it’s someone at SCEA leaving clues in their profiles as to the future of the PlayStation brand. Or rather, someone who used to work for SCEA.

Picked up by VideoGamer, the profile of one director of research at the company claims that they were working on the graphics library and security on “Next Generation” platforms way back in August 2010.

An employee working on new technology isn’t earth shattering, but it does date the PS4 – assuming that’s what this is all about – to at least two years back.

“I worked on graphics and a lot of network related technologies,” says the profile, “for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms.”

“Platform security was occupying most of my time at the last years…”

  1. any hard core gamer would prefer physical discs. I also assume Sony wouldn’t mind bringing out new beefier hardware.Till we actually see it lets wait n see.

  2. Of course, what people have to remember is that the employees working at Sony, “they have lives,” some/most of them game too, and they have something to say/they’ve got opinions to shout aloud, and I’m quite certain that no one wants to become 100% reliant on downloadable content yet, or ever.
Because if that becomes the case, Sony’s audience will be narrowed down to those who have access to the internet, where I know many consumers of Sony’s PlayStation Franchise evidently don’t, but some of us do, but we still don’t want the half an hour wait to get a game downloaded, it’s far too strenuous.

  3. PS3 never lived to its fullest life :(

  4. I’ll take a £500 console over a cheap streaming box any day.

    • As will I.
The next gen has to be beefy and oozing power for me, otherwise i’m going down the PC route.

And having seen the leaked specs, although not concrete I fear that the next gen will involve me buying a monster PC, hooking it up my 50″ and upsetting her indoors.

      • I’ll be building a powerful pc next year, but I will still buy the ps4. It’s more about the games than graphics to me, don’t want to miss out on Sony and console exclusives.

  5. It was never going to be streaming only but can we actually be assured he is talking about PS4 here?

He doesn’t mention PS3 does he, so whats to say that Next Gen isn’t simply PS3? In 2010 PS3 was still termed as a Nex Gen console.
