The PlayStation Vita was meant to play PSone games from the off, but it never really happened that way. However, Sony have confirmed that the portable will be able to play old school PlayStation titles at some point this summer.
Facilitating the playback of supported titles is a new firmware, which will take the Vita’s system software to version 1.8, although there’s no specific date for the update yet.
Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider will be amongst the first games to work.

Sony’s been doing a majestic lot of work on the PS Vita, I really hope it all pays off.

‘Among the first to work?’
Oh, not this again.
Please, let Metal Gear Solid and the Final Fantasy series work straight away.
And Silent Hill too.
And would please ask EA to release their PSP catalogue on the Vita already!
Burnout Legends and Medal of Honor Heroes would be perfect…
