TheSixthAxis has long been a staunch supporter of Futurlab and what they’re doing with PlayStation Minis. Coconut Dodge was excellent, ably demonstrating the Brighton developer’s commitment to tightly tuned, acutely focussed gameplay as well as their smart sense of humour. Velocity is on another level altogether.
In a tiny package, for almost no money (or actually no money if you were a PS+ subscriber) you get a vertical scrolling shooter with a twist that is almost universally praised and acknowledged as one of the PSN’s best titles. This exceedingly affordable little bundle of joy costs less than a pint and a packet of pork scratchings in a London pub and offers hours of fun.
It’s playable on PS3, PSP and Vita too so most of you will be able to access it and drop us a little review in the comments, making this a perfect candidate for WeView.
In the full TSA review, Dan said:
Do you want to know the real ace up Velocity’s sleeve? If you play it on the Vita it’s even better. Not only does the Vita’s portable nature suit the gameplay better, but it looks pin-sharp and handles wonderfully. I got to level 29 on the PS3, started up a quick game on Vita to test it out and never actually went back to the PS3. Obviously that’s not to say those playing on the console will be getting the worst version, this is definitely not the case, but Velocity and the Vita are a perfect match.
So, leave us a few words in the comments and let us know your thoughts on the game and don’t forget to tell us if you think we should Buy It or Avoid It. Our usual scale involving rentals and bargain bins are difficult to apply here but feel free to suggest that we should wait for a sale (like “free” wasn’t a good enough discount!?).
We’ll come back next Monday and round up the collective thoughts of the TSA WeView community.

Buy It – Simple as. For the price you pay and the game you get, there is no excuse to miss out. Enjoyable, innovative and fun. Futurlab have produced another good game.

I’d have never considered buying a Mini’s game (just not my sort of gaming), but seeing as I got it free on PS+ I skeptically thought I’d give it a go.
How glad I am that I did so, fantastic, addictive, fun and just as much replay-ability as titles much larger and more expensive than itself.
If your not buying this game for any reason (such as no trophies) then the main person losing out is you
Buy It Now….for less than a pack of cigarettes or a Ginster’s pasty

Just buy it already, so that hopefully Futurlab will have the cash to make a HD version of it, so that we can all buy it again, because it’s actually awesome enough for me to desperately want to be able to do that, and I feel stupidly guilty for having got it for free on PS+ and now not being able to buy it for money.

One of my favourite Mini’s, really addictive, I don’t even care that I didn’t get it for free with PS+, it was well worth the £3.99 I paid – Buy It!

A standout mini and a great little game in it’s own right, innovative yet with old-school simplicity.
Buy It.
Origami Killer
Have a massive hangover so not bothering with any detail in my weview, buy it, best mini there is.

Buy it: It’s not just a great Mini, it’s one of the best PS3 games of the year.
