Sony have revealed that the beta for United Front Games’ LittleBigPlanet Karting will begin next Tuesday. The beta will take place from July 10th to July 31st, with invites being sent out in waves over the beta period, as with the recent LBP Vita test.
In other news, the recent Karting Game Jam – a regular occurrence for upcoming LBP titles or updates – seems to have gone down well with the creating community. In a detailed post on the series fansite LBP Central, those attending the event praised the pathfinder tools, the Kartinator, and the new Controllinator, the latter of which reassigns controls at the creator’s will – meaning that levels created don’t have to involve racing at all, but can effectively just be anything in a 3D space.
“I think my first feeling was one of bewilderment. I don’t think any of us – me especially – expected the game to support as much as it does,” writes creator ConfusedCartman. “It really does support essentially everything LBP2 supports, plus an entire third dimension.”
And for those not yet excited about what the LittleBigPlanet universe can bring to a racer, here’s some words from the interestingly-named Spider-Jew:
“Battle Arena is going to allow people to go in and create any game genre. I worked on a set of mini games where you go from playing basketball, to ice hockey, and then to mountain climbing.
You could have Capture The Flag, Base Defense, recreate your favorite game world to explore, create a city filled with mini games/missions, create fun movies…and of course, throw a cow in someone’s base to earn points and give the other team a disease which turns them into cows that run backwards and ‘moo’ constantly!”
While no date has yet been announced, LittleBigPlanet Karting is scheduled for a release on PS3 sometime towards the end of the year.
