Rumour: New PS3 Model Photos Leaked

Interestingly, these images of what appears to be the new PS3 surfaced this evening.

As to whether they’re real of not we don’t know, but that looks like a sliding, top loading section on the top with the ridges, and the profile definitely matches that of the FCC filings a week or so back.

In addition, Joystiq is reporting that the label numbers – CECH-4011A, CECH-4011B and CECH-4011C – refer to consoles with 16, 250 and 500GB of storage.

That smaller 16GB one might just be solid state storage, then.

It’s all falling into place.

From what I can gather, it looks like Brazilian site Tecnoblog found the images on the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications site, rather like how the label positions were found on the FCC site.

  1. She’s back, the black beauty… That being said this is rather ugly.

    • I don’t understand why Sony still insist on including an optical port. Surely people who are interested in this cheap model arent the same tiny minority of people that have surround sound systems and want to connect to it using an optical cable instead of hdmi.

      • Yup, I use a surround system, but it routs from my TV, so all HD signal goes to the TV and audio gets passed on, it’s why surround sounds only have 1 input.

      • But then there’s people like Halbpro who don’t have HDTV’s but may have optical surround sounds.

      • Most TVs do a terrible job of routing any audio above 2 channels, normally downmixing over HDMI.

        Optical ports are still the most useful by a mile.

      • I have to use an optical port for my Astro A30 headset’s MixAmp. Optical is the way to go for decent sound.

      • Yeah but us lot on here aren’t the intended market for this. We may have a use for optical outputs, headsets etc, but the mum buying her kid their first console since the Wii isn’t going to use it and has no idea about surround sound. If sony really wanted to save money they could’ve removed it. Say it costs them 20p for each connection for example. for them to produce 10 million they have to absorb a cost of £2 million which they pass straight on into the rrp.

      • Optical output is the only way for true Dolby Digital surround sound.

        Also modern surround sound systems have 2 HDMI inputs now as well. Using HDMI ARC input to route sound from devices connected to TV to the surround sound system doesn’t seem as good.

      • Sod off gently! I’d need an optical port! And the Slim probably won’t be produced so you won’t be able to get anything but this model

    • Usually the debate is on why something was removed, not why hasn’t it been removed lol

  4. I’m sure it’d be 160GB, think of the Blu-ray games available for download, won’t fit on that, and there are little-to-no SSD’s that small.

    • Possibly, although a scan of a letter on GAF clearly says 16GB.

      • Typo has to start from somewhere. Would just be odd to go to below what the PLAYSTATION3 launched with, just as odd as the 4GB x360

      • Flash memory, like I said. Plug in a HD and the 16gb flash isn’t used.

      • I have a 4GB 360 and regret it but it was a good offer. I’m going to buy a 320GB HDD.

        Microsoft wins. Good marketing.

    • Indeed. I really don’t care what it looks like anyway so long as it does the job.

      Although what I’m really interested in is the price for the lowest HDD size. My Fat recently died so a) it needs replacing and b) I already have my Fatty’s 500gb HDD that I can use. Please be around £120, that would be a good price!!

    • Danm.. this is really annoying..why not on the back..makes the hiding of the cables so much easier..

    • Agreed, I can’t imagine extra USB ports would take up much more space, or add much more additional cost.

  7. Don’t really get the whole striped thing going on… I think that’s what’s making it seem so much worse.

    • It’s back to PS2-ish design, it had stripes too

  9. Agreed you think they’d finally get the USB on the back please message.. Also I wonder what the disk loading mechanism will be like (and if you can even stand it vertically).

    Oh well, we did get a trophy patch for MGS4 this week – dont support you can have everything you want :-)
