Rumour: New PS3 Model Photos Leaked

Interestingly, these images of what appears to be the new PS3 surfaced this evening.

As to whether they’re real of not we don’t know, but that looks like a sliding, top loading section on the top with the ridges, and the profile definitely matches that of the FCC filings a week or so back.

In addition, Joystiq is reporting that the label numbers – CECH-4011A, CECH-4011B and CECH-4011C – refer to consoles with 16, 250 and 500GB of storage.

That smaller 16GB one might just be solid state storage, then.

It’s all falling into place.

From what I can gather, it looks like Brazilian site Tecnoblog found the images on the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications site, rather like how the label positions were found on the FCC site.

  1. I can’t wait for Sony to release a new PS3! At least this looks better than the Slim! £150 price point and I will buy it, putting some money aside.

  2. As long as it’s cheap then i don’t give a f**k what it looks like LoL:D

  3. I hope they keep selling the current slim model with the new one, because if the new slim has the Bluray drive exposed then I’ll be able to buy the (now-not-then) current slim .

  4. Unnecessary step Sony made, releasing this. I still say, it won’t make a big increase on sales.

  5. Just like the PS2 slim, this is a pretty ugly thing.

  6. No update to the WiFi to include N is one helluva massive joke, and a very unfunny one at that.

  7. It’s horrible. I would have always sold my current and gone for the newer version, but this is too ugly. No USB port at the back either.

    Most pointless rebuild ever.

    • i’m guessing it has two main purposes.
1: to boost sales, seems to work for nintendo when they bring out a new colour ds, and the slim ps3 did pretty well.

2: being cheaper to make, that is most likely the main cause of the redesign.

  8. i don’t see an opening to allow access to the hard drive, unless one of those top panels is for access to the hard drive bay.

maybe this version won’t have an easily swappable hard drive.
that would not be a good idea in my opinion, especially with a 16gig version.

  9. I’m amazed at how much criticism there is for this new model. The point is to reduce costs and at the same time generate interest, so surely its a sensible move not to increase specs to add cost nor reduce the specs and end up discouraging upgraders? And fair enough it looks ugly and tacky in those photos, but so did the current slim when we saw the first illicit snaps. No doubt the annoucement snaps will look amazing.

If this successful and ends up being another good step down in the price we pay and the manufacturing costs then this is hopefully where Sony make a stack of cash, instead of a loss like at launch, and at the end of the day that can only help the next PlayStation.

  10. Glad it’s not just me but looks like she’s taken a tumble from the ugly technology tree and pretty much hit all the branches on the way down! Phew what a shocker to look at. Can only think this is a decent fake mock up rather than the real thing. While Sony struggle with admitting their mistakes, some online capabilities and security you can generally rely on their products to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I call fakeroonie on this monstrosity. I hope.
