Paramount have trademarked ‘World War Z’ under the category ‘downloadable electronic game program, electronic game software, and video game cartridges/discs.’
If the game were to follow the excellent book then perhaps we could look forward to an intense and personal survival horror game as characters across the globe come to terms with the zombie apocalypse. Think Heavy Rain mashed up with the original Resident Evil.
If the game were to follow the upcoming Brad Pitt movie trilogy in which our square jawed hero is tasked to report on the zombie menace, well let’s face it, it’s going to be a FPS isn’t it?
What we will probably get: An iDevice game – tap the screen to squish zombies!
Filming for the first movie has now finished and is scheduled to hit the cinema next June, however Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof has been drafted in to re-write the third act and possibly change the ending so the release date for both movie and any game may slip.

I was just thinking to myself, “What this world really needs is another Zombie game…”
On the plus side, the book is indeed fantastic, as is it’s pseudo-prequel “The Zombie Survival Guide”. Both highly recommended.

Knowing the book I thought this would more be suited as a RTS game where one must move civilians around / create defenses buildings etc. Poss use the Redeker plan.

That’s what I would like to see, it would work well for the later chapters of the book, but the survival horror aspect would work well for that guy in Japan (I think) who locks himself in to his apartment.

i’d like to see what they could do with that old blind japanese guy though.

that would be a good way to go, because the size of the engagements in the book, just wouldn’t be feasible for an fps.
and if it followed the plot of the book, as described by the people interviewed, not the interviewer going round talking to people, then you’ll be fighting on the losing side for most of the battles.
because the kind of tactics and weapons that are effective against humans, prove ineffective against the zombie horde.
you can’t demoralise them.
you can’t destroy their chain of command, because they don’t have one.
you can’t cut off their supply lines for the same reason.
and they don’t have to rest.
and they don’t feel pain.
the weapons we have now are designed for human targets.
targets that can be taken out of the fight with a single bullet, and not only in the head.
whereas there’s pretty much only one way to stop a zombie permanently.
and if even one survives, so to speak, it could all start again.
that’s where the rts genre would come into its own with this game, with the research element into new weapons.
but who are we kidding?
it’ll be an fps.

Well, I guess it will be the game of the film as it is trademarked by the film company.
I could be pleasantly surprised. There was that Bourne game that turned out to be based on the book rather than the film, and was better for it. Will not be holding my breath though.
Having read the book (if you haven’t, you should), I may just put my fingers in my ears and shut my eyes whenever someone mentions the films or game. Just incase it spoils otherwise happy memories.

I can’t wait to kill 100s of zombies despite that there is supposed to be very little ammo available and that zombies can’t die unless the brain is removed(which is rarely used in zombie games). :( If it’s another FPS, i will lose hope in gaming as imo, it sounds like World War Z would be best off as a RTS or as Tuffcub has said, Heavy Rain meets Resident Evil.
