No doubt I’m not alone when I say that RuneScape was my first taste of the MMORPG genre. Completely browser-based with relatively few strings attached, Jagex’s online masterpiece has since spiralled into one of the industry’s major success stories, its latest iteration due for a combat system rehaul later this year.
Clearly proud of what their flagship has achieved in the past decade or so, Jagex has recently issued an infographic upon reaching an unthinkable milestone of 200 million registered users. The full image (and all of its zany factoids) can be found here. If you haven’t the time, then here are a few inclusions:
- RuneScape’s population dwarfs that of the United Kingdom by more than three-fold.
- With each passing second, 27 players meet their. The word “LOL” is also uttered ten times during this period.
- Since launch, users have racked a mind-blowing 443 billion hours online.
Perhaps a bit too archaic for those are serious about their PC gaming, RuneScape is still worth a punt if you have yet to experience an MMO. It’s not as if there’s a shortage of people to play with.

This free to play then?
BalramRules
Well, it’s free to play, but you can get VIP-Features if you sign up to become member, and there’s something called the Squeal of Fortune that’s optional, hasn’t got a drastic effect on the game, and you could always purchase that, and there’s something new called ‘Rune Coins’ which you could choose to buy.
I strongly encourage you to try this game out, I personally think this game’s awesome, I’ve been a member of this game for over 10 years now, and they have a good way of showing their thanks to us, by giving us all celebratory items, capes and more etc.

I find these numbers hard to believe. My wife and I got emails saying someone is trying to sell your accounts on RuneScape please click this link blah blah…..
We never even signed up 0_e or created an account!
This applies the same to World of Warcraft.
So these have got to be bogus sign ups….. surely it is 0_e
Let me know if I am wrong…… I blame man flu!
MayContainEvil
I’d say phishing scam trying to get you to input your account details – if you have one. I’ve received such emails myself.
Jim Hargreaves
I get the same e-mails on a fairly regular basis. I imagine that, at some point, you have passed on you e-mail address to either RuneScape itself or some affiliated online gaming website.
The WoW ones are more frequent in my case, and have since been extended to Starcraft 2 and Diablo (I won neither.)

Sure, why not? :-\
The Lone Steven
Of course they would be happy playing a game that they like. Otherwise they wouldn’t be playing it. ;)
Totodile
Totally agree with ya there, RuneScape has got be my favourite game of all time, I’ve been paying £25 every six months for the past 10-11 years on this game, for extra Member Benefits, it’s totally awesome! :D

The sharp retort by CB has to be voted for comment of the week.
Best put down I’ve heard this month. LOL.

There’s a two week free trial, gave it a go but my laptop’s not man enough for it. Shame.
