New Version Of Gran Turismo 5 Coming Soon

Sony will be re-releasing Gran Turismo 5 this year, as a ‘complete’ “Academy Edition” to celebrate the recent GT Academy competition, which will contain a number of additional extras previously available as paid-for premium DLC.

The Academy Edition will feature:

  • Car Pack
  • Car Pack 2
  • Car Pack 3
  • Course Pack
  • Course Pack 2
  • Special Paint Pack
  • Racing Gear Pack
  • The Nissan GTR driven in this year’s Nurburgring 24 hour race by Kazunori Yamauchi.

And speaking of Kaz: “GT Academy has captured the imagination of many Gran Turismo fans,” he said. “It is exciting to watch what Lucas Ordóñez, Jordan Tresson, Jann Mardenborough and Bryan Heitkotter in the USA, are achieving in their new racing careers with Nissan.”

“People can now see that it is possible to make the switch from being a fast gamer to become a real racing driver. We wanted to mark the tremendous success of GT Academy with the very latest version of GT5,” he said.

The Academy Edition will be released in September for just £20.

  1. More of a Forza man myself but this is a sensible price for a lot of content

  2. Kinda hints that the DLC is finished with now. With this version and the XL version in the states that came with a code to get all the DLC. It doesn’t look like they’re are planning to release some more anytime soon.

Will still pick up a copy to add to my GT5 collection though!

    • an interview with Yamauchi from july 1st 2012 using user-submitted questions. I found it here

lorddevil6969696: Will we have new DLC for GT5?
Yamauchi-san: Yes, we are preparing new DLC content for GT5. Despite it being a long time since GT5′s release, we have received a lot of fan messages asking about new DLC content. And that display of continued interest is something very important to us.

Of course Kaz has made promises that don’t come to fruition before.

      • Wasn’t there an announcement last week about new DLC?

      • They released Twin Ring Motegi and the Scion FR-S a few weeks ago. I don’t know about a definite announcement other than what I posted. Could be out there though.

      • The announcement was just after I downloaded Motegi so thought it was for more DLC.

    • Just read into the release a bit more, and apparently there is more news to come about the release of this new version. So maybe we can see more DLC.

Blayney, thanks for the link, I had forgotten about that announcement, but don’t know if it does cover Motegi and FRS and even the GT Academy cars? Guess will just have to wait and see. *fingers crossed*

  3. Good to see the price being spot on

  4. that’s the version to get for the future 16GB-PS3 owners, they can’t afford to download any DLC :-D

    • Pretty sure it will just contain a voucher code to download the items from the store.

  5. Wonder if it will be a fully patched version of the game, or have to d/l all the title updates seperately

    • Surely patched version? They’d be mental to have someone sit through all the updates. It would take days.

      • I had to re-install GT5 on my new PS3 a couple of weeks ago.It took 6 hours to download all the patches!

  6. Just realised that the GT-R is not the Schultz one we got a while back which was the GT-R kaz raced in the nurb 24hr in, is it? Is this a new one?

    • Yeah it is this years one, faster car as well.

  7. Will be getting this…can’t refuse at the price, sure hope it’s up to the hype!

  8. Wonder if it will also come with a demo of GT6… ;)

    • I’m sure we’d all lose the download voucher by 2020…

  9. Nice to see but this could well be the final version before a potential GT6 announcement as per your other news today?

  10. Ooo well there will be a new car coming to GT6 at least. Looking forward to trying out that GTR.
