New Assassin’s Creed III Engine Shown Off

You might not automatically think of Assassin’s Creed when you’re trying to come up with a game or series which typifies this generation of consoles. It really does though, and not simply because they’re games that boast moments of graphical prowess, either.

The first Assassin’s Creed was only possible because of the added power in your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. It was the crowds. That kind of large-scale, reactive crowd wasn’t possible on earlier consoles. Assassin’s Creed has always been a game series that pushes technology forward, and not always in the most obvious ways.

Those of you who have been paying attention might have noticed that I’m inordinately excited about the impending arrival of Assassin’s Creed III. It’s not just for the themes or the setting or those powerful combat controls, either. I’m excited for Assassin’s Creed III, at least in part, because there’s a new game engine.

This video shows off what the new engine, dubbed Anvil Next, is capable of. It looks quite special, albeit in a modest way rather than the flashy lighting and texture displays that some of this autumn’s big hitters will foist upon us.

Nope, my excitement isn’t waning at all.

  1. Pretty awesome. Can’t wait to see it used in other franchises.

  2. I’ve just finished AC2. Never been bothered by this franchise before but picked it up for £8. Haven’t I been missing out?! What a game. Can’t wait for 3 to come out now. That video looks ridiculous.

    • AC2 was my favourite. I think mainly because of the massive move forward from 1.

  3. The hanging of the red coat never gets old and with the duel it makes Connor look like a beast.

I wish the Ubishop and Gamestop.co.uk would’nt take the money for pre orders now as they are the only place that stock the Freedom edition but they want to take the money as i pre order.

  4. Top of my list fo sho!

  5. Looks amazing. The only thing that bothers me is the running on very thin branches and them not moving at all. It’s like they are made out of steel right to the tip.

  6. wow,looks brilliant!

  7. This has the potential to be my favourite game of all time. I’m very excited!

  8. As long as they have dropped the Desmond puzzle sections and the tower defence game I’ll be a happy bunny. They almost ruined Revelations with there ‘lets throw in everything’ approach.

  9. This looks great, looking forward to the Naval Warfare
