SEGA, Gameloft, TECMO, THQ And SCEE All Behind PS Mobile

Sony used its Gamescom conference to reinforce PlayStation Mobile, showing off an impressive demo reel featuring lots of upcoming games that’ll work on all PlayStation Certified devices – which obviously includes PS Vita.

Even more impressive though is the list of developers and publishers signed up for PS Mobile, showing a considerably more rounded support line-up than the Vita itself is currently enjoying.

That’s nearly 100 studios, which is great.

PlayStation Mobile will be going ‘live’ soon, and when it does you’ll be able to grab games from the PlayStation Store in the normal way. Nobody’s publicly talking about pricing yet, but we’re aware of some developers who are wanting to emulate the prices you normally see on the App Store.

We exclusively previewed Futurlab’s new title Slidin’ Beats earlier in the week.

  1. Disappointed there’s no SNK, Konami or Capcom – I want bite-size ports of all their great arcade beat-em’ups of yesteryear :-(

  2. Does anybody know whether PS Mobile uses only touchscreen, or if developers can make use of the Vitas buttons and sticks?

    • You can use everything.

    • You can use everything, but I’d imagine most games will be touch based, seeing as phones don’t seem to have buttons anymore.

Hope we can assign custom controls, or that devs leave in control options choices.

      • OK, thanks guys. Not a big fan of touchscreen games, but now my interest is slightly higher.

  3. Dont care. Want proper games.

    • LOL.

    • Im in agree with you there. lol
Cut the Mickey Mouse Bird Flinging Bullsh*t and give me the real deal!

    • kinda agree with you here, whilst i’m sure there will be some good games on here i’m more interested in the games ala uncharted or assains creed eetc, thats what i bought the vita for!

  4. People saying “I want proper games, not this mobile nonsense” – I sympathise with that view, more traditional games are my preference too. But we’re in the minority, generally, and it’s worth noting that the potential revenue brought in by a mobile store ecosystem like this (which is huge) will help to sustain Sony Computer Entertainment at a time when those traditional games we enjoy are causing the company to lose quite a lot of money.

In short, without initiatives like this that potentially create fantastic amounts of revenue, Sony will eventually go bust. I don’t want that, so I want this.

    • I hope that the likely popularity of mini-games like these won’t discourage publishers from still making full games. Having the choice is good…I don’t want a future where these mobile games are ALL there is to choose from!

  5. Mobile games are good for Sony, they bring in money to be spent on non-mobile games.

  6. So there’s a chance of a Sonic game? I hope they do.

  7. Arkdink….. I know they’re known for making the A-Train series and a few Gundam games on PSP (stuck in Japan has always) interesting to see what they make.
From Software would be interesting too.. yay Armoured Core mobile *rolls eyes*

Anyway no Capcom or Konami is kind of disappointing, meaning there’s likely no retro goodness from them if there will be any on the store. Good thing though it maybe those Dev Story games and a few…erm Chillingo games are released on PS Mobile. I hope.

  8. I’m sure there will be a good amount of games, I’ll want to pick up.

  9. It’s all about the price. If Sony follows suit with their current pricing, raising the price of an iOS game from $0.99 to $9.99 that list will start to shrink.

  10. Great support. This is what the Vita needs, nevermind Sony platforms.
