As of next week’s client update, Wrath of Heroes fans will finally be able to put their spare tactics to use as BioWare Mythic roll out its latest in-game feature, Alchemy.
For the uninitiated, tactics are stat-enhancing pieces of equipment that can either be purchased via hero skill trees or recovered from reward chests; depending on your playstyle, there will always be a cluster of tactics you never really have use for.
Previously, the only way to get shut of unwanted tactics was to sell them off for a slither of bonus XP. However, as of next week, players will be able to recycle them in a bid to obtain stronger and rarer tactics.
One of the alchemy options available is to create a random “Elite” tactic. Essentially, these add-ons are powered up versions of regular tactics and are used frequently among veteran players. To get a random elite tactic you must first surrender two of your own elites.
The other option available is to create an elite tactic of your choice. This is done by collecting five copies of the same basic tactic before combining them into a single elite.
Alchemy really isn’t the sort of gameplay feature that will draw in an entire new audience though it’s great to see Mythic catering for its current playerbase. It was only a few weeks ago that the studio announced a new system in which players could customise the appearance of their favourite heroes using a variety of purchased and unlocked items.
