“Dark Souls 2” Joins The VGAs Announcement Party

A surprise CGI trailer unveiled at the ongoing Spike Video Game Awards tells us that a sequel to tough-as-nails 2011 RPG Dark Souls is on the way.

Aside from the CGI tease and the name, no details were given, and that also means there’s no announced platforms. Maybe that’s because the platforms haven’t been announced, eh? The fact that the sequel is falling under the Dark Souls, not the Demon’s Souls, name suggests that it will at least be multiplatform.

Update: the announcement press release says PS3, 360 and PC (cheers Al!), and a feature in this month’s issue of Edge confirms that the game is in development once again at From Software, by a team led by new directors  Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura. The trailer isn’t online properly yet, but you can see it as part of the VGAs replay here (at around 2m30s).

  1. Fingers crossed that Demon’s Souls gets a sequel on PS4/Xbox Next then.

Now that would be reason to jump on board new platforms (and IF Sony had ounce of sense they’d make it PS4 exclusive, as far as Japan goes.)

  2. *sees that Dark Souls 2 has been announced* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! *dies*

Knowing how cruel From can be, i suspect it will be harder then Dark Souls 1 and you only have a paper sword as your only weapon. :p

Hopefully, it will be as good or even better then the first Dark Souls game as well as not having lagtown!

  3. Colour me unexcited by the retarded title. I truly hope Miyazaki will come up with a more creative name for this game (unless Namco has decided otherwise).

  4. Need to play the original titles….*heads to eBay*
