Resident Evil: Revelations was recently confirmed for pretty much everything out there – PS3, 360, PC, Wii U. But not the PS Vita, which was snubbed by the publisher. Why? It’s because it doesn’t have a large format screen. And that it’s not the same resolution as the 3DS.
Speaking to fans, Mike Lunn, Product Manager at Capcom explained why the game won’t be coming to the Vita. “When we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc.,” he said.
“This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent,” he added.
But it’s already on the 3DS, right? Well, that doesn’t seem to matter. “3DS and PS Vita infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts,” commented Lunn. “Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions / functions.”
Shame.

This is what happens when the install base for a console isn’t high enough. It isn’t fair to blame Capcom. Vita owners can’t expect Capcom to lose money to port a game, and if Capcom decided to port a cheap, crappy version the fanbase would be even more upset. This is a no win for Capcom, if the port RE they’ll lose money, If the cut costs for a crappy port they damage the RE name.
The Vitas lack of sales is Sonys problem, Sony needs to supplement financing for some 3rd party game development, or get cracking on 1st party development to increase sales,… or drop the price,… or give the average gamer a reason to put down their phone and buy a Vita.
