It’s been a couple months since Vice City was released on iOS and Android in its Anniversary edition, but while GTAIII and San Andreas are available on PSN, Vice City was still missing.
That’s all changing now, with news from Rockstar that the game will be available next week on the Store (Tuesday in the US, Wednesday in the UK/EU) for $9.99/€9.99/£7.99.
There’s no reason given by Rockstar for the delay, but previous rumblings suggested that there was some issues surrounding a Michael Jackson song on the game’s soundtrack. Whilst this could simply be removed and replaced in the mobile re-releases, it obviously wasn’t worth Rockstar opening up the old PS2 code to make adjustments. Presumably, with this release news, those issues have now been resolved – ie: Rockstar paid out.
There’s also a note in the announcement post that more classic Rockstar titles “will be arriving on PSN “in the weeks and months ahead”.

When they make stuff like Vice City and GTA 3 available on iOS it makes me play my PS3 less and less for better or for worse. If they can do San Andreas, that is something to wish for..
I never thought I’d say it but my ipad is my main gaming thing these days because of these awesome ports. Carmageddon absolutely blew my away and I can’t wait for new one.
If they can make Manhunt for iOS I’d be elated.
Saying that, I know GTA5 will turn my PS3 back from a Netflix machine back to what it was made to do.

Why are some people expecting a PS2 game to be rereleased with trophies? As it would mean that Rockstar would have to go into the code, add the nesseccary bits and spend more time then they probably want to on an old game.
As for VC, i loved it. Twas better then 3 and didn’t swear every other sentence like SA did, tis a very good game and if i had a connection with a bigger data allowance and connect to PSN, i would have bought all 3 GTA games. Then procceed to ragequit at GTA:SA’s dancing mission. It would be nice to see a HD remake of the GTA3 era games but oh well. Wonder if GTA:VC has dated well or if it will look a bit naff on a HD TV? ooo, i wonder if Rockstar will throw in a GTA game with GTA5?

The main reason being that a lot of people including myself have either a working Phat PS3 with backward compatibility or a working PS2 and the original Vice City disc.
So it’d only be of any use to us if it was remastered in HD and given trophies otherwise we can just play our original copy of the game..
In our case, no HD remaster = no sale, simples!

i’d be more inclined to buy ps2 games off the psn if they actually let the emulation software run the games off the disc.
they’re all just emulated versions after all, you don’t think they went in and modified those midas shovelware titles to run on ps3 do you?
so why won’t the disc versions run?
because then they can’t sell us the games we already own.
rant over.
what i’d like to see, is the world of San Andreas, with the soundtrack from Vice City.
