Sony Ends Relationship With SuperBot

Sony have closed all connections with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale developers SuperBot Entertainment, it has been confirmed tonight. The Smash Bros-esque brawler crashed at retail, despite some hugely positive reviews.

“SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms,” says SuperBot’s director of operations David Yang. “We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done.”

“SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey.”

The studio recently laid off a large number of staff.

Sony have been condensing their roster of studios over the last year or so, with Sony Liverpool being a notable recent casualty. Call of Duty Vita developers Nihilistic were another, and Starhawk developers Lightbox Interactive moved on from console development last year.

  1. Saw it coming really after All-Stars flopped so badly.

  2. From what I’ve seen, Its not Super Bots fault, they produced a solid game, the blame should be placed with whomever decided to imitate a popular game by using unpopular characters, which I’d assume was somebody at Sony.

    • Nathan Drake, Big Daddy and Kratos are unpopular?

  3. From a UK perspective I found the advertising to be poor. I feel Sony may not have the marketing muscle at this time. I will be surprised though if even MS and NiN are not being more careful in the current economic climate.

Cheaper, bite sized or serial games may be the way to go. Give people what they can afford. Quality titles, but slightly shorter, that build up to the epic in with ‘chapters’.

I love fighting games, but the title was always going to struggle to show it’s relative worth against other options, especially without more ‘fluff’

  4. That sucks. The game is awesome

  5. Played it on my bro’s PS3 was really expecting this considering it performed abysmally at retail.

Still think Sony Santa Monica may pick it up for a sequel in the future but then again maybe not, Could see this Free on PS+ in a few months though

  6. Another great game that wasn’t advertised in the correct way by Sony. People will disagree, but you need to advertise in other media other than computer game websites and blogs.

    • I seen this advertised a lot on TV during big shows and on a billboard next to where I live.

Not to mention huge posters outside my HMV. I thought they finally got the advertising right the had great TV spots, Trailers, A Beta etc. I just think it came out at the wrong time and got lost with the Christmas releases.

  7. It may have been Super-Boy had a one game deal, that is entirely possible. Sadly I didnt enjoy PSABR, if Sony want to do a mash up fighting game then they should have given it to Netherrealm – I woudl have bought that game in an instant.

  8. Aw man…… I really loved that game and still have them in my possession. The Vita is even great fun when out and about. Can see why everyone didn’t bother buying and it was a bad month for launch with big titles around that time. But still buying the PS3 version and getting the Vita FREE! (Cross-Play) was a great move!
    Shame about it though.
