Sony Releases Clear Screens Of The PS4 User Interface

I can’t wait to play Combat Plane 2 on my brand new PlayStation 4.

These interface images are scattered with fake game titles and images, as well as imagined comment threads and mobile mock-ups. I know that’s a necessary step at this stage – rather than give away all the game titles they’ve got coming – but I find it quite amusing.

Fancy a go on the Dragons and Cavaliers multiplayer when it comes out?

Anyway, to the point. Sony has today released the user interface screenshots it used at its stage presentation last week. So there’s nothing really new here but we do get a nice crisp look at how the PS4’s front-end menu systems are currently looking. I would imagine that there’s some scope for change as they continue refining and developing their ideas but, so far, I really like this.

It’s very reminiscent of the recent store redesign, perhaps obviously, but the heaps of super fast RAM and that beefy APU should ensure that it zips along. Let us know what you think below.

  1. The ‘Now Streaming’ image has some of the most depressing game ‘chat’ I’ve ever read.

    ‘Can you do more lives’?
‘Done my first playthrough, it’s fun, you’ll be getting pumped up every time you succeed’
    ‘awesome gameplay’

    Jesus.

    • And a good old “check ur friend request please” because someone has obviously realised its a female gamer. Some things don’t change, not even in fake game chats…

  2. I can see myself watching a lot of streams, too lazy to play some games myself. The overall design looks nothing trendy but at least very clean, me likes. And finally user-defined avatars!

  3. wow, Henry has a very poor platinum/trophy ratio. I expect better lol

  4. Highlights how sad and tired the XMB is now.

  5. Are our trophy collections gonna carry across from ps3?

  6. So long as the menus can be customised and the social networking stuff can be put aside that’s all fine by me. Looks good though.

  7. I missed the original Combat Plane… Do you think you need to have played the first to know what you’re doing with the second?

  8. Given how good looking many of the PS4 gamers are in their profile pics, I’m not sure I’ll be allowed to get one…

    • These photographs are just general stock photos, no gamer looks like that.

      • Exactly. The chap in the photo looks like he’s familiar with the outdoors and might’ve got to at least second base with a real woman (who he’s not related to).

Damned non-gaming folk and their healthy ways.

      • I was attempting a little bit bit of irony, but that obviously went for a burton…

  9. Least it gives me an easy way to trim my friends list. Any use of “u”, “ur” or other text speech is instant deletion.

    Old man rant ends

    • Ur spt on thr m8. Cnt b assed wif ppl tht do tht shit. Jst tke time 2 put propr grammar in plz!

    • Are you my new best friend?

  10. As someone who loves the minimalistic elegance of the XMB, I must say I like the clean look of the new UI.
While there is quite a lot going on on some of the screens, it doesn’t seem as convulted as the 360 dashboard and displays interesting information on the fly.
I hope the UI is very snappy with all the power of the system but slow internet connections could struggle with all the stuff that has to be downloaded to display the necessary information. Hopefully the offline content doesn’t lag behind until the online stuff has loaded in so you can still navigate through the necessary menu items while the rest loads in the background.

If the suspend/resume functionality is as good as Sony tells us, I won’t be spending too much time in the system UI anyways.
