Developer Omega Force and publisher Koei Tecmo have released a few more details for the forthcoming Attack on Titan 3, which is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC this winter.
The game will follow the story of the anime, with players starting in the Survey Corps, creating their own character to fight alongside established characters in major battles from the series. As usual, each character has unique abilities, and you will need to assemble a squad with the right balance of skills for each mission.
New for A03 are Exterior Scouting Missions, which take players beyond the city walls to build bases, destroy Titans and expand the territory claimed by the few remaining humans. Resource management will be key, with the players balancing the risk of heading into new territory with the possibility of losing some of their soldiers.
While the series famous omni-directional returns, there will also be a new casual mode to allow players to experience the story without having to learn all the combat moves.
The opening animation for the game will be produced by MAPPA, the animation studio that worked on Attack on Titan: The Final Season, with action scene animator, storyboard artist, and key animator Arifumi Imai returning as director. However, in a rather weird move this animation will not be available at launch and will be patched into the game at some point after.
Attack on Titan 2 was released way back in 2018 and we scored it an impressive 8/10 on our review. Miguel said, “Omega Force managed to do something incredibly rare and impressive with their Attack on Titan games, they managed to make a totally brand new video game. Some trappings of the Warriors formula remain, but they serve to complement a fresh and unique core gameplay experience. I wish the involvement from my character in the story had been a little more significant, but the opportunities I got to mingle with the cast between missions more than made up for it. Attack on Titan 2 is one of the strongest anime video games I’ve ever played, not because of a perfect story mode or graphics, but because it creates a unique gameplay experience that could only ever be done with an Attack on Titan game.”
