Have A Look At Metro: Last Light’s Evocative New Gameplay Trailer

Metro: 2033 was a little rough around the edges but it seemed to brilliantly capture something that videogames often struggle with: atmosphere. The sequel, which some may have feared in jeopardy after THQ’s troubles saw it sold off to a new publisher (Deep Silver), looks like they’ve hit that nail squarely on the head for a second time.

This new trailer features some gameplay in amongst plenty of artsy panning shots and more than its fair share of body disposal. It’s all there for fans of the previous Metro game, the underground tunnels, the Russian accents, the grime. This is set shortly after Metro: 2033 (in 2034, in fact!) and the plot was written by Dmitri Glukhovsky himself – author of the novel these games are based on.

It’s due out on May 14th in North America and the 17th in Europe on PS3, PC and Xbox 360. Hopefully this one manages to build on the cult success of its predecessor.

  1. If I’m not mistaken that voice over sounds like the chap in COD?

  2. meh

  3. The first Metro game was one of the two greatest atmospheres created in FPS genre, i think.

    Other game was Bioshock 1.

  4. It actually looks really good. Metro 2033 is still sitting in my Steam library after getting it in THQ’s Humble Bundle. I keep meaning to get around to it, but I’ve got both Hitman Absolution and Far Cry 3 on the go.

    • Got it from the THQ Humble Bundle, too and gave it a shot.
I quit the game after 30 minutes (first real combat scene). It just felt weird. I don’t know. I didn’t like it at all, so will likely skip this.

  5. I’m buying this instead of Dead Space 3

    • This 100% Dead Space has fallen very hard from the mantle the first one build.

  6. I missed out on the first game but i’m liking what i’ve seen of this so far, looks to have great atmosphere.

  7. The atmosphere looks great as usual but the game has a far more aggressive tone to it which I like. It does “look” more of the same with regards to the world they’re in but that’s no bad thing. However, to see how it plays out has already caught my attention.

Best of luck to Deep Silver with this. :-)

  8. could deep silver if they wanted to port the first one to PS3 now?

    • Yes, in theory, but 4A are still quite a small team of developers, so it’s not on the cards right now.

  9. Where’s the gameplay?
