New Strider Game Incoming?

Whilst Strider Hiryu is often included in lists of the greatest games characters and has appeared in a number of games, most recently in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, there hasn’t been a main entry in the Strider series since the 1999 arcade sequel Strider 2.

Seemingly that is about to change with an eagle eyed NeoGAF user picking up on placeholder artwork for a Strider title on XBLA (which was swiftly taken down again) as well as an entry on the Steam database for a Strider achievement.

With Capcom apparently set to announce two new games at PAX East this Friday/Saturday it seems that Strider is a likely candidate to be one of them, perhaps refreshing the series in a similar way to Bionic Commando: Rearmed, or remastering the original arcade/Megadrive title in HD.

Either way, Capcom will potentially be answering the dreams of Strider fans who have longed for a HD update the world over this weekend.

  1. YES!

    • Seconded. Just as long as it’s 2D and not some three dimensional abomination.

  2. I’m going to show my age now – when you said Strider 2 came out in 1999 I immediately thought “bullshit, I had it on the ZX Spectrum!” A quick Google & Wikipedia search later and I discovered that Strider 2 did actually come out in 1999, but Strider Returns came out in 1990, but was actually also called Strider 2, and that’s what I had – it was awesome! I’ve not played the 1999 version, but I don’t want to because I’m sure it’ll ruin my memories of the game I used to love – it was a classic, along with the similar styled Turrican 2.

For anyone under 30 who’s interested (or for the over 30s who fancy a trip down memory lane), here’s Strider 2 (1990 version) and Turrican 2

    • Never played the sequal, but loved the original Strider on my trusty 48K+. Amazing what they could squeeze out of that little machine.

    • Turrican was amazing. Thanks for reminding me.

  3. Strider, Turrican, Midnight Resistance, Bionic Commando.
    Great days!

  4. Someone really needs to make an “Amiga Classics HD” collection. Turrican, Bloody Money, Xenon 2, The Chaos Engine etc..

    • hell yeah.

    • US Gold and Taito need to have their older games re-released – Chase HQ remains one of my favourite driving games of all time (and one of the most difficult)!

    • Heck – re-release the Amiga !
