Microsoft has just started sending out invitations to an event on May 21st. The invitations carry the Xbox logo and the time and date of the event, to be held at Microsoft’s Xbox Campus in Redmond.
Obviously, there’s no more information so we’ll have to wait to see if the always-on rumours are true, whether the thing blocks used games and what some of the new games might look like. We’d also suggest that, given the puzzling mainstream backlash against Sony’s unveiling, they’ll probably show off the box.
All eyes on Microsoft then, for now. Let’s see if and how Sony responds.

M$… really? Puerile stuff, guys. Microsoft/MS are trying to make money just like Sony.
I love my PS3. Loved my PS2. Loved my PS1. However, Microsoft are a company based in a consumer-driven society trying to make money and please their shareholders. JUST like Sony.
Can’t we just leave the dollar sign out of it? It’s so genuinely tiresome to see.

This has come up before Mike,it was coined a term back when Netscape tried to behead the beast in an extremely long court case and went alongside legions of agitated linux users.
It has kindve been hijacked by console comparisons but is really buried in their business approach via windows.
I agree it’s petty but until i can piss in their water coolers i’ll not complain about people using it.

Over reaction much bunmomike, its a $ sign mate, hardly offensive is it.
Sony dont double dip on subscriptions services like M$ so they derserve the acronym in my eyes. I can happily watch netflix, lovefilm etc on my ps3 without having to pay sony a second sub.
M$ have worked hard to earn that ancronym, not just with xbox but they way the conduct business on other fronts. I will always use it when referring to them, i dont care if it pisses oversensitive souls off.

Edit: Steven – please don’t get involved in discussions like this when they’re already being handled, it’s just likely to encourage more argument. [PC]

Do a 3DO MS…have ‘The hardware’ on show and then let a jurno open the disc tray and see nothing in it and trace wires back behind screens where powerful PC’s running entire show….
I’d rather watch that than some guff about how you’ve listened to what the consumer wants and here’s 30 mins of Kinect 2, a pie chart and an akward looking celb promoting something they’ve clearly been briefed on mere mins before coming on stage.
What’s the betting it will be Halo 5!! (crowd goes wild), Halo 2 remake (a woman faints…), Forza:Extreme, Gears Of all out War, Chaos and Famine, Kinect:All Of Creation, COD:Past, Present and Future Warfare, followed by TIMED EXCLUSIVE DLC Whooping and cheering, some graphs!, some more graphs, nanotransactions (because micro is sooo last gen darling), 8 Gigs of Ram that goes really fast and has really shitty gas milage…it’ll be…more powerful than PS4 and damn yer eyes, we’ve the graphs to prove it.
There probably will be graphs and pie charts, right?.

It’ll be worth seeing just to find out the answer to why windows 8’s startup looks like it does.

finally, all the rumours and speculation will end and we’ll finally get the real answer…
what to call the bloody thing.
i mean sure, the whole always on, preowned or no preowned thing is a big factor on whether i ever buy one, but really, i’m most eager to find out what it’s called.

Xbox8 is on its way then….
Gaztee
Won’t it just be called Xbox. Won’t need an always on connection & will play used games. Will have 360 on a chip for backwards compatability & will use win8 as its OS. And it will be housed in a nice black box!
Probably won’t watch the stream, but will be interested to see how many of the rumours are actually true. Can’t see me being tempted to get one whatever they do though.

I really hope the rumours about the Durango 720 are false and MS haven’t decided to take a massive dump on gamers as compitition is always needed. If the rumours are true, the 720 will fail due to how unpopular always online is and gamers prefer to be able to boot their game up without worrying how much will they play today if they have a dodgy net connection. My net tends to play up a lot recently so i would be furious if i couldn’t access my game collection due to that shit DRM.
Wonder if Sony will try to steal the spotlight by revealing the PS4 itself? I know someone at Sony joked about invading MS’s event with an actual PS4 (Name escapes me at the moment). Hopefully, MS will surprise us by showing a lot of games and will focus on the gaming side of the console instead of what they are currently doing with the 360.
