Rumour Claims Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 Cancelled

According to rumours today, EA has cancelled development and release of the next Tiger Woods game, assumed to be called Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15.

Kotaku writes that the next Tiger Woods game was originally meant to have been outsourced to another development team to allow the main Tiger Woods studio at EA Sports to work on a next-generation engine for two years for Tiger 16.

However, since CEO John Riccitiello’s resignation a few weeks back, that idea was canned to save costs. The situation now appears to be that there won’t be a Tiger Woods 15, but a ’16 will still appear the year after, in 2015, on next-generation consoles.

EA Sports apparently declined to comment.

It’s likely that Tiger Woods 15 is the only casualty of this transitional move, if this is indeed true. Don’t expect the likes of Madden and FIFA to suffer a similar fate – they’re simply too popular to just skip a year, regardless of platform.

  1. The games industry really is going down the pan if EA are cancelling a yearly sports franchise game.

Not even a half-assed reskin of Tiger Woods 14?

I shudder to think of what the increased costs of the next generation is going to do to developers and publishers… :(

  2. Not got around to buying this years yet, though I’m sure I will, I’ve had every single Tiger Woods for god-only-knows how many years. I’d be a bit gutted if this turns out to be true, one of my favourite franchises!

  3. Considering Tiger Woods 14 as to date sold an abysmal 150k copies then i’m not surprised – hell i’d go so far as to say cancel the series altogether.

  4. If 4 or more of my old mates from high school are together in a house then you can be 100% sure that Tiger Woods is played at some point. We all started religiously playing it back in 2002 and it’s just like second nature to play it and chat ‘saving the world’ etc. but there never really been a PS3 (current gen) game that’s grown on me enough to work my ass off through it.

Hopefully a gap year and the fear of a 2 year period of big expectations will freshen things up a bit and take some pressure off the team behind it.

    • The last game (13) had enough tweaks and improvements, alongside some great new features, that it kept my interest until platinum. If you haven’t tried it, then you may be lucky and get it cheap somewhere now that 14 is out.

I do agree with the freshening up. Sometimes a break and a step back can breath some new life into the development teams.

  5. I read of a patch being released today to try and the fix the pretty bug ridden 14 game so apparently the 360 version of the patch was a bit flawed adding more entries to the list of jizz so it was sent back for re-patching, which’ll take another week for re-release…..dear oh dear!

  6. I don’t mind the wait, i used to buy it each year but haven’t done so for a few years now.
