EA Planning A Next-Gen “Full Reveal” At E3

EA are planning a “full reveal at E3 including more next generation titles in development for FY14,” the company has said in their latest earnings report. The new software, which includes Battlefield, FIFA, Madden, NBA Live and Need for Speed will, according to the publisher, “include breakthroughs in graphics and gameplay.”

“We plan to unveil new titles from EA SPORTS, Bioware, and DICE and a first look at some brand new games,” the statement continues.

“I also want to call out a big accomplishment by the teams that built the development engines for our next generation of games,” said Frank Gibeau, who pointed to Frostbite 3 and “a brand new engine from EA SPORTS.”

“These world class tech stacks are powering all of our development on the new systems,” he added. “They provide an enduring common technology that saves cost, fosters efficiency, and provides spectacular physics and graphics for our games.”

Gibeau also teased Star Wars content, with EA confirming yesterday that they had access to the license. “DICE and Visceral will produce new games,” he said, “joining BioWare which is already developing for the Star Wars franchise. The new games may borrow from films, but will be entirely new stories and gameplay. Powering it all will be our Frostbite 3 game engine.”

TSA will be there in force at E3, and we’ve already got our eyes on EA.

  1. The cynic in me suggests there won’t be many “breakthroughs” in the “gameplay” department, considering the mention of mostly yearly franchises like Fifa and Battlefield, and the likelihood EA haven’t got a single new IP to show. I can only hope for Mirror’s Edge 2…

    • “likelihood EA haven’t got a single new IP”

      I’d doubt that.

    • My first thought was a next gen Mirror’s Edge. That game on Frostbite 3 would just be fantastic.

  2. Give me dragon age 3 on ps4 and i’ll be happy :D

  3. “The new games may borrow from films, but will be entirely new stories and gameplay” so no Battlefront 3 then :(

    • I don’t think it rules out Battlefront 3, as they make any story they like out of it, and they’ll be free to tinker with the gameplay mechanics. The biggest change I think might happen is that it becomes solely first person, like Battlefield, rather than the traditional 3rd person shooter.

  4. Lightsabres, force push and pull all wrapped in Frostbite 3? Sold!

  5. I’m very excited about the “new titles from…DICE” comment. We already know about Battlefield 4, so surely Mirror’s Edge 2?

  6. Holy moly, a DICE reveal at E3? PLEASE GOD MIRRORS EDGE.

  7. Skate 4 pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. It’s the only thing that will make me buy a PS4 at launch.

    • This. I’m assuming they haven’t given up on Skate altogether as I haven’t heard any news about the IP in ages. Fingers crossed this will be on the list of games they’re going to announce.

  8. I’m sorry, but Star Wars 1313 of gtfo. Yes, I’m still bitter about that…

  9. A football game with running on DICE’s frost bite engine … that gives shooting the ball a whole new meaning.

  10. Last generation gameplay with new graphics from EA then, is this what happened when the PS3 and PS2 launched? Actually that might be a bit unfair, the PS2 had some amazing third person adventure platformers for example and the genre has seen some sublime examples of refinement on the PS3. I would say the biggest improvement from 2 to 3 was easy access to online play, I can’t see what its gonna be yet but I’m a bit excited about what the biggest 3 to 4 leap will be. God forbid its sharing though, urgh.
