Nintendo Start to Reveal Their E3 Plans

Nintendo has already announced that they would be tacking a different approach to this year’s big show in Los Angeles. Refraining from the usual big stage show might have alarmed some but I think it’s a sensible idea.

The platform holder doesn’t have new hardware to show off so they can’t hope to compete with Microsoft or Sony for the high impact headlines. Anything else they do would seem low key anyway, so why waste the huge bagful of cash it costs to host their traditional stage event?

Instead, they’ve said there will be two smaller events at E3 this year. They’ve just revealed what the first of those is. Reggie Fils-Amie and Shigeru Miyamoto will be hosting a special hands-on with Wii U software at Nintendo’s booth, right before the show floor opens on Tuesday 11th June.

It has not been revealed exactly what will be there, although we know that there are new Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers games due to be shown at E3. It’s unclear whether this event will be streamed, as the press conference usually is, but given Nintendo’s regular “Direct” streams, we’d be surprised if there wasn’t something for us all to watch on the internet.

  1. Isn’t there supposed to be a special E3 Nintendo Direct? That will be streamed. The small media event with Reggie Fils-Amie and Shigero Miyamoto will not be streamed as far as I know.
I hope we get to see more of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 during E3.
I also wouldn’t mind the reveal of a Wii U HD Zelda with realistic graphics (like the Wii U demo).

    • The Wii U Zelda is rumoured to have an artstyle similar to Skyward Sword.

  2. I fear that with Nintendo going down this route at E3 will mean anything they do/show will be completely overlooked.

  3. I hope in a big surprise… A new Metroid, perhaps?
SSMB, Mario Kart and the new Super Mario for Wii U will be top seller titles, but they are so… “obvious”.
The lack of interest shown by the third party is what is really worrying, for Nintendo…
And now, Bayonetta 2, please! ;)

  4. I hope that there will be a good streaming program for their new stuff. Im really interested in what they’ve got cooking.
