Uncharted Is “Over” As Sony Registers Domains For The Last of Us Sequels

Sony have regisistered domains for The Last Of Us 2 and 3.

It is far to early for Sony to talk about a sequel as the first game is not out but as there are three games in the Uncharted series we may see yet more of Joel and Ellie, probably on PlayStation 4.

Slightly more concerning is this video from Naughty Dog’s Judd Simantov.

His presentation shows the techniques he used in modeling and rigging the game’s primary characters, and he covers special considerations for artists who want to maximize realism and evoke an emotional response from players.

At the 14m 20s mark says “Now that the Uncharted series is over, we had the opportunity to re-evaluate certain things.”

Over? Uncharted? No more Drake? No more Sully? Elena? Chloe? Surely not.

Last week we went hands on with The Last Of Us, check out the preview here.

  1. I’ve watched a few minutes and the “cones” system is hugely impressive. It cures the “puppet’s elbow”, as I call it, where you get that hilariously creased fold in the arm where it bends at the elbow. ND have been careful with it anyway but to see it working in the video (at the wrist) shows the depth they’re going to. I suppose the great thing is that these are all transferable assets for future games as they’ll probably involve humans too! :-)

  2. I think it’s good to let Uncharted rest for now, as although the third game was fantastic, it felt far too familiar to Among Thieves at times and at others it was maybe just a little too bombastic. That being said, if the series is done for good it would be a travesty! They need to release at least one more game so that when we play it, we know this will be the last time seeing Drake and company. To suddenly end a flagship series when fans are expecting more would just be harsh.

  3. Thought this was a given to be honest. Charted3 was great but it was clear the series had run out of steam, as it wasn’t a patch on Charted2. Besides, Naughty Dog always seem to follow the “3 then out” rule when it comes to their games.
Not sure how I feel about multiple LoU games mind, as it strikes me more as a one-off project than a full series.

    • But, but, karting game!

      • LOL that’s true actually. The Jetski moment in Charted1 was enjoyable, perhaps a WaveRace clone with Uncharted characters is in the pipeline. Watching Sully perform a series of spins and flips could be pretty entertaining.

  4. I think they should let Uncharted rest for a couple years or so before bringing it back. It’s gotten too big for Sony to put it down, and another Vita title can keep us interested until then.

  5. You can’t just drop a nuke like that and not pause for it to sink in before continuing!

  6. Wait why would the domain mean the end of uncharted? The last of us is being made by ND second team so therefore UC is as alive as the Wii U

  7. Just one more for PS4 please!

  8. I don’t think it’s the end of the series it’s far to popular and gamers want to see a new adventure on the Playstation 4 not only that I don’t think Sony will want to kill of the Uncharted brand

    • Thing is, Naughty Dog obviously have other good stuff to show us as The Last of Us shows. I’m sure a studio as talented as Naughty Dog is positively bristling with great ideas.

I’d hate for them to stagnate with one franchise instead of showing us new game after new game (with respective sequels when it makes sense).

  9. That’s really dissapointing if true.

The last one wasn’t that good, and I would’ve liked to learn more about Nate’s back story before the series ended. If anything uc3 left us more questions about his life…

  10. I don’t mind what they do next because they always do brilliant games. I loved U1+2+3 :P If there is more then cool, if not i can’t wait to see what is next :P (after TLoU which looks AMAZING to) ;)
