Sony have, it appears, been playing a very sneaky cat and mouse game with Microsoft this year.
It started with the sudden switcheroo that resulted in Sony ‘going first’ with their next-gen reveal in February to the surprise of everyone but the vague ‘Holiday 2013’ date that was mentioned was always, apparently, going to be the case, even in the UK.
When the Metro ad appeared this morning, we fired off a quick email to SCEE PR to see whether or not this was the real deal, and whether there was an official press release to accompany it.
Not as such, but there was a rather frank, official-sounding statement. “We announced at the PlayStation Meeting event on Feb 20th that PS4 would be coming in 2013,” Sony said to TheSixthAxis (and apparently at least one other site). “The adverts are simply re-stating that message.”
Ah, OK.
“More information about PS4 and all PlayStation Platforms will be announced at E3,” it continued, not really giving much away. Perhaps today’s advert was in direct response to Microsoft’s “this year” dating at the end of the Xbox One conference earlier in the week. Or perhaps not.
So, anyway, a maximum of 221 days to go.

It seems to make it look rather big. Having said that, xbox One looks huge, so not too much of a big issue. Certainly seems like it’ll look better than that.

I can’t wait to show my cousin my new PS4 when he comes round for Christmas dinner. :)
By the time I’m finished he’s gonna resemble the Hulk (but without the muscles and ripped clothes) :D
