Don Mattrick, the president of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business and the man behind many of the more entertaining quotes about Xbox One is to leave Microsoft and join Zynga – if rumours are to be believed.
Mattrick joined Microsoft in 2007 and his departure will be a serious blow for the company as they gear up to launch the new console. Zynga have been in trouble since their IPO and the appointment of Mattrick as CEO will impress investors, Mattick has previous success in improving the fortune of ailing companies including Microsoft’s Xbox division.
Sources say the move will be officially announced after the close of trading today and that Mattrick “has long wanted to move back to the Bay area, where has has a home,” and that this was “another important factor in this move.”

All the best to him. If he was going to stay on at Microsoft, I’d at least pull him out of the limelight as his words (and actions) came across so insincerely. His body language screamed “I don’t believe the words leaving my mouth” and I know a lot of MS fans have been very vocal about how Sony have Tretton, House, Shu and Cerny whereas fans are struggling to name one.
Actually, when you list it like that, that’s a fantastic set of four people to represent the PlayStation. Wow!

Wow, such a high profile member of the Xbox team leaving months before the next console launches? MS seems to be in turmoil. I’d really like to know what’s going on at their meetings these days.
