Barely an hour ago had I written “The Xbox One will ship without a headset” and lo and behold, Microsoft have made another U-turn and now the Xbox One will ship with a headset.
A new unboxing video from Major Nelson shows the headset, a rather chunky power brick and the day one edition controller with a chrome effect d-pad which is “hot!”
The headset is confirmed for both the day one and the standard Xbox One packs. The box will also include a 4K HDMI cable and a terribly exciting Xbox One sticker.
Larry also revealed the power button for the Xbox One which, once pressed, lights up and makes a twinkling sound.

Didn’t they say recently that a headset would be included if there was sufficient demand for it? Sounds more like listening to customers than copying Sony. 360 came with a headset, ps3 didn’t, so who’s copying who really?

Neither PS3 or PS4 require you to buy a proprietary headset – any bluetooth jobbie will do. Can you re-use a 360 headset on Xbox 1? erm… no….
While I am giving serious thought to getting both consoles at launch, I have a PS4 on pre-order but I suspect there’ll be plenty of spare Day One Edition stock available at launch to be honest – my local Game told me they taken three times as many PS4 preorders as XB1

My point is people were claiming MS including a headset was copying Sony when it clearly wasn’t.
I’ve not actually preordered either console as I’ve not seen enough games I want to justify the purchase. Though I’ve ruled out ps4 due to a lot of problems with sonys (lack of) customer service.

You can but you have to buy an adaptor for the 360 headset to work on the Xbox One. I don’t know if this is true and I’ve been looking online but can’t find anything say yes or no but I believe the Xbox One was using bluetooth for it’s wireless headsets.
Also my local Game I believe are about to run out of Xbox One preorders and say they’re pretty much the same. But I imagine the PS4 will be outselling the Xbox One 3-1 but think it will average out over the life span.
I plan to get both but am getting the Xbox One at launch as I’m just more interested in that than the PS4 but I don’t know which one is the one I will like most personally until I use both.

I’m interested to know more about the impulse triggers and how that will work in games. My idea before the PS3 released was to have real force feedback in the joysticks, like if you walk into a wall the actual joystick would give feedback that you can’t walk there.

Size of the main unit isn’t a huge issue but having an external psu that large (again) is, not to mention the sheer size of the Kinnect unit itself? Much too intrusive.
One last thing, the XYAB lettering on the pad, much too large a typeface in my opinion.

Why does it have a power brick when the actual console is so large?
PS4 is way smaller and doesn’t have one?
Either PS4 is better designed or will melt.
Or XBone is generic design.. even so power bricks are so 10 year’s ago.
Not even 50″ TV’s have power bricks.

Have to agree that made me giggle! What is the power rating on the X1? Surely it can’t be more than the 35w I believe the PS4 will have? Maybe they were worried that the X1 might look like an Atari 5200 if they put the brick inside?

Probably not, no. From my experience a £6 HDMI cable is just as good as a £60 cable, it’s only when you start spending mega bucks you start to see a difference.

right…so with the slot loading blu ray drive, and the touch sensor power button…it’s basically an original PS3…just in liquid black brick form…nice ;)
also why do they still insist on having a feckin brick the size of a breeze block? and I bet it’s got one of those stupidly rigid cables too.
oh well at least they are throwing in a headset now…so that’s 90p of the overall price accounted for.
