The Wind Waker HD’s Hero Mode Will Up The Difficulty

The Wii U remake of one of the best games ever made will feature Hero Mode making enemies deal double the damage and meaning that you won’t be able to find hearts in the environment; you’ll instead need to use potions or fairies to recover your health.

It appears to be extremely similar to the mode of the same name found in Skyward Sword, rather than being akin to Ocarina of Time’s Master Quest, which completely changed the puzzles and progression in temples and dungeons, as well as flipping the perspective in the 3DS version, offering a fresh experience of the same game.

Still, it’s something entirely new for the fans, alongside all of the other improvements, which we detailed in our preview of the game. I really can’t wait for the game; it releases in Europe on the fourth of October.

  1. That sounds absolutely awesome, just the news I’ve been waiting for tbh. While Wind Waker is undoubtedly my favourite game, of all time, my one critique would be that it is just a bit too easy for me now, after umpteen completions.
I look forward to this challenge, and October 4th can’t come soon enough.

    • Would have loved another dungeon, but yeah – agreed.

      • Yes, one would have hoped that some of that “cut content” would have been put in, and that they would have made it into the game it should have been, with a dungeon or two near the end where the tri-force shard quest is, but eh, I’m not complaining.

      • I think the 3rd dungeon is missing, I don’t mind the triforce bit at all, never have. Just make a point of doing bits as you go rather than leaving it all until the end. :)

      • @nofi, I totally agree with you there, that third pearl should surely have had a dungeon based on great fish isle I guess. And no, the shard quest is fine by me, gives you a good chance to get out and explore the open oceans and all of it’s little islands, great fun!

    • Let’s hope it’s unlocked from the start unlike Master Quest on OoT3D…

  2. I’m considering buying a Wii U just for this. My favourite Zelda game of all time.

  3. I loved Wind Waker too (was the reason why I bought a Gamecube), but Ocarina of Time is my favourite Zelda game. :-)
