Square Enix Apologizes For Bumpy FF14 Early Launch

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn isn’t due to officially launch until tomorrow. However, those who pre-ordered a copy of the revamped MMO were invited to start their journeys on August 24th.

It’s been a mostly stable launch for publisher Square-Enix. MMORPGs are notorious for day-one queues and log-in errors yet A Realm Reborn has been largely exempt from these issues.

With that said, there has been a number of reported crashes and players unable to access servers due to them having reached full capacity.

Game producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, responded to these complaints with an apology. Though he doesn’t outline a clear strategy to tackle the problem, he does advise new players to spread themselves across the more thinly-populated server worlds.

I’ve been dipping in and out of Eorzea all weekend as I start to pen my review. There were a couple of times that servers weren’t available and a handful of occasions in which I had to queue. However, whenever in-game, I never came across crashes or even the usual minor glitches and bugs.

We’ll have more on A Realm Reborn later this week. Be sure to keep an eye out for our full review too.

  1. I forgot this was coming out. Will probably wait till it’s on PS4, got way to much to play as it is.

  2. Would love to dip into this but Rayman Legends comes out soon so I’ll be occupied with that and once the PS4 launches I won’t be able o spend that much time on an MMO. I might get into it once the PS4 version comes out. Vita remote play will be perfect for some casual questing or crafting in the evening!

  3. Largely exempt?

Have you seen the 90000 error: reborn thread on the tech help forums that spreads over 100 pages?

Have you seen the many complaints about the inability to log in because the NA/EU server list didn’t show up?

What about the fact that the whole duty/instance server was down most of Saturday?

You were a lucky one, but people I know didn’t make it on at all this weekend due to repeated server errors and mistakes on SE’s part. There is a reason they are apologizing.

  4. I have tried to get online both Saturday and Sunday on the EU servers, and had no succes on joining any of them.
Tried new character on a low populated server, and as soon as I was done creating the server was full again.

I found out that I had absolutely no problems in joining on Japanese servers. It did have some minor lag occasionally but it’s something you could try if you had no succes in joining.

  5. Those without PC swaying over wether to buy the PS3 version or PS4 version, my advice is to wait!

The game looks beautiful on PC and horrendous on PS3 by comparison. Honestly, wait for the PS4, it’s only 3 more months…

  6. I only had a problem gaining access on Sunday night, the rest of the time it’s been fine (other than 4 attempts to log in on Monday morning). Guess I’m one of the lucky ones, the whole process has been smooth for me and I’ve achieved quite a lot over the EA period (well, I consider them achievements… :P)

  7. Mine should be arriving today, hope I won’t run into these problems but i’m bracing myself for the frustration
