The Guardian have spoken to Rockstar and asked them if they were interested in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, specifically if they had thought “Oh wow, what will GTA 6 look like on a PS4?”
“Of course we’re interested,” said Rockstar’s Dan Houser, “But no, not in terms of GTA, because we’re always working on the current game.”
“We look at the tech at a more practical level: what will be ready for which game that we’re working on further down the line. We don’t have another GTA in development, we don’t work on three of these games at a time. That would be phenomenally depressing. So, in terms of GTA, no.”
This is actually quite a tricky statement to try and interpret, and though Tuffcub (who found and wrote this post initially) disagrees with myself and Blair, I think it’s really quite non-commital. It states that there is no other GTA game in development, so no GTA 6 right now, but is a long way from ruling out a next generation of GTA V. In fact, Houser acknowledges that they’ve seen the PS4 and Xbox One.
“We get pitched by the hardware manufacturers on what they’re planning to do and our tech guys come up with ideas on how that could be used. Does this influence design decisions? Of course. But we’re not sat there fantasising about 10 years down the line. We’re so busy with what we’re doing right now.”
Houser did rule out any return to London for the GTA series, “My own personal feeling is that GTA is America. With this game, I think, we’re very happy with the location. It let us do something iconic.”
What do you think it sounds like Houser is saying?

I too am really caught between buying GTA V now or just wait for maybe a next-gen release or for it’s price to drop. Waiting for a price drop I believe is useless actually. The thing is I have so many games to play with PS+ I am simply discouraged of buying extra games.
Any thoughts ?

If youre going to wait for a price drop I’d just wait until they release the DLC and offer a super-duper ultimate package like they’ve done before. I’d look at it this way, if GTAV was going to be a launch title or somewhere close to a PS4 launch title Sony would have said something, if it is coming to PS4 its probably going to be a while. So either way your going to be waiting unless you really want to play it now and if you really wanted to play it now you would already own it. Its a great game, but 6 or 9 months, or even years from now its still going to be a great game ;)

I expect next gen versions at the same time as PC, seing as their architecture is closer to them.

I think we will see GTA online on next gen.
Playing on the PS3 has cured my generation fatigue, it’s that good.
Now to just enjoy and wait for the Red Dead sequel on PS4 :)

I’d be amazed if they didn’t launch a couple of DLC campaigns like they did with the last one. Once the final one comes out there will be a complete edition launches on next gen at around the same time.
I’ll probably wait until then, or just borrow the 360 version when my brother is done with it.

I’m getting the impression he’s hinting we’ll be seeing a next gen Red Dead or something similar

I think people are looking into to this way too much.
Basically, his statement implies to me that GTA V will not be on next gen consoles but they are currently working on a next gen title which isn’t GTA.
Thats what my 30+ years of speaking English tells me :)

I wonder what the GTA5 dlc will be? Hopefully it’s extensive, like Lost & Damned and Ballad. There’s certainly room for more Lost MC story.

I think he’s saying: “Oh ma gaaad, America is crazy!” ^^
Cuz GTA now belongs to the USA, it’s meant to be there!
GTA is crazy… So has to be America then ^^
