Sony France Seemingly Confirms R&C: Nexus For Vita, Insomniac Responds

Ever since Ratchet and Clank: Nexus was announced for PS3 earlier in the year, there have been a stream of queries about a potential Vita port of the game, like last year’s Q-Force.

Despite repeated listings and even appearances on ratings boards, Insomniac have always responded along the lines of “there is no announced Vita version, and if there was, we’d want to take time to make sure it was of a good quality” (for good reason, as you’ll see below). Well now it seems that some form of factsheet sent out by Sony’s French division has listed a Vita version of Nexus as part of a Vita bundle curiously due a week before the game itself is due to release on PS3.

The bundle announcement was noted by Twitter user Darkoss93, who appears to be part of PlayStation France’s community team, and who posted that the game is also on an official list of Sony-published Vita games up until the end of the year. Over on NeoGAF, Insomniac’s James Stevenson denied the bundle, posting “We haven’t announced anything […] there is no announced Vita port, and even if there was, it wouldn’t be coming out a week before the PS3 game”, which is a fair point.

Regardless of the validity of the tweet though, Amazon France appeared to have received the same factsheet, listing the very same bundle (including a Vita, the game, and a 4GB memory card) for release on November 6th.

If and/or when a Vita version of Nexus does actually exist, Insomniac are seemingly wise to ensure it is up to standard. A Tin Giant-developed Vita version of 2012’s Ratchet and Clank: Q-Force was announced at E3 that year, but missed the PS3 version’s November release, eventually appearing in May this year and received much criticism of its poor frame-rate and graphical quality. The free “compensation” title Ratchet Gladiator HD was also significantly delayed, launching mere weeks ago, and bizarrely incompatible with SD televisions.

  1. Q-Force is the one game I’ve bought for a console where I’ve been genuinely unhappy with the framerate and performance to the point of not playing it again.

I’ve enjoyed plenty of games which got hammered by critics and other gamers for framerate issues, but QForce took it to an absurd level. Shocking really, especially when you consider the delay as well.

  2. Insomniac is slipping. I’m not confident in their work anymore. I lost interest in the R&C series after a Crack in Time (which I still haven’t played) and Fuse turned out to be as mediocre as it sounded. Not sure about their Xbox One outing but since I have no plans to ever owning that console it doesn’t really concern me of that game turns out to be good or not.
They were/are very close with Naughty Dog, right? Maybe they move on from the cartoony style of games and surprise us with something as game changing as Uncharted back in the days.
