One month ago an ESRB rating showed that Activision had listed The Amazing Spider-Man game for the PS Vita. Today it was confirmed that the webslinger will be arriving to the handheld with this being a port of the PS3 version of the game, and not the 3DS version as once suspected.
This means that there will be an open world of Manhatten to explore complete with side missions and various groups to fight. The Vita version will also incorporate the touch controls, which will allow touch combat and navigation as well as setting waypoints on the map, and using the gyro controls to take in game pictures.
Some of the screenshots look better than others, with the close up of Spider-Man swinging through Manhattan looker sharper than the action shot of him kicking some goon, which looks a bit worse for wear. It’ll be good to see The Amazing Spider-Man in action on the Vita, and see how it stacks up both graphically and gameplay wise.
The Amazing Spider-Man will be releasing November 19th in the US, with Europe probably getting it the same week.

See what you mean about the graphics. Looks a little blocky!

I’m not hugely into comic books, but have really enjoyed the Batman/Arkham games. How does Spiderman compare? Would be interested to hear some thoughts.

the PS3 version was definately no Arkham in terms of quality but is still a good game, mechanically and graphically it was pretty good and I enjoyed it, it’s certainly very good for a licensed game and is the best spider man game since spiderman 2 on ps2/xbox.
They really nailed the web swinging element of Spidey, the only niggle for me was that your webs often seemed to attach to thin air, eg jumping well above the height of the buildings but still able to web swing- although you don’t tend to notice this too much unless you look for it.
If the port is good the Vita version will be worth picking up

Hope those aren’t grabbed from the framebuffer of the Vita… 500×283 is practically the resolution of a PSP, and almost a quarter of the pixels on a Vita.

Spider-Man on Vita, my son will be over the moon. I’ll have to keep an eye on this one.
