To celebrate fifteen years in the business, Amazon U.K. have revealed their “all-time top ten” bestselling video games.
Although exact sales figures were not released, unsurprisingly it’s the Call of Duty and FIFA franchises which dominate the multi-platform chart.
However, the game taking fourth place is ridiculously impressive, namely Grand Theft Auto V. The title was released less than a month ago and is surely set to displace the elderly Modern Warfare 2 from the retailer’s top spot if sales continue at their current brisk pace.
Another unexpected entry is Zumba Fitness, then tenth best-selling game in Amazon U.K.’s history.
“Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and FIFA are three of the largest entertainment franchises in the world, so it’s no surprise to see them dominating the top ten best-selling games chart,” said Amazon’s Ketu Patel, Video Games & Software Category Leader. “The success of Skyrim suggests that there is a real appetite for epic fantasy games, whilst Zumba Fitness’s appearance in tenth place shows just how big Nintendo Wii’s fanbase is in the UK.”
Here is the list in full:
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
4. Grand Theft Auto 5
5. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
6. FIFA 10
7. FIFA 13
8. FIFA 12
9. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
10. Zumba Fitness
I just have one question: What was wrong with FIFA 11?

If someone makes a first-person-shooter-football game they’ll be quids in.

That’s just FIFA’s penalties, isn’t it?

You just know that right now Capcom are having an emergency meeting, trying to figure out how to market this as Resident Evil 7.

Introducing Omega, the final game you’ll ever need. Meet Stefan Krilok, he’s a [insert random Eastern European country here] immigrant in America and just trying to survive, whatever the cost. But when local mob boss Tony Kickem discovers he’s really part of a black ops team that’s harnessing the power of dragonshouts, they’ll have to face each other down with their RPB (rocket propelled balls) in a 90 minute 2-half death match, for which they’ll need to train their body to be in the peak physical condition.
There.

Ha ha!

Shame they didn’t release actual figures, but I’m still glad to see what is my favourite COD game at the #1 spot!
It would have been interesting if they showed more, just to see what the best selling exclusive title would be for PS3/360.

Same! No matter what people say, it was amazing (pre hacking era).
31 days spent in MP with over 100,000 kills! :D
gazzagb
Yeah, it was such a shame it got hacked to shreds :(

MW2 will always be my favourite online game. Pure fun with or without friends, good ol’ 2009 :(
Shame iw didn’t fix oma and a few other glitches.

Outside of Fifa only MW2 got anywhere near my consoles and I wish I hadn’t bothered with it. Bit of a depressing list really.
Makes you wonder how long it is until EA just release a Fifa console which stays up to date through a subscription and be done with all the rest.

Quite sad really looking at that list. I had a lot of fun with COD4, none of the others really so that’s strange seeing all up there but not that.

What a lame generation it has been, in ways. For all the unique IPs and Indie titles on the market, this sorta list show hows uninspiring gamers have become.
GTA V being on there, having only been released last month, is unfathomable, what an achievement!

Fair play to Zumba, that’s incredible.
I guess FIFA and CoD are expected since they’re multi format. Would be interested to see where console exclusive sales sit against CoD and FIFA sales on individual consoles.
freezebug2
An exclusives list for Playstation would include at least one of the Gran Turismo titles, but it’d be interesting to see exactly where in the list that’d be compared to the CODFIFA’s.

No surprises really. I think a lot of people bought Zumba to keep the Mrs happy and also to net a few cheeky trophies. I know I did!
